Pig price today in the South. (Synthesis: Du Y)
In general, the live hog market on May 8 recorded stability in the North, while the Central Highlands and the South saw slight decreases in some localities, mainly at VND1,000/kg. However, prices in key provinces in the South remained high, even reaching a peak of VND74,000/kg in many places.
Pig prices tend to decrease slightly as supply increases
Since the beginning of April 2025, the price of live pigs nationwide has been stable and has tended to decrease by 5-8% compared to the peak in the first week of March 2025. It is forecasted that in the coming time, the price will continue to decrease slightly.
According to traders, the market is quite quiet because consumption after the holidays has not clearly recovered. As of the end of April 2025, the total pig herd in the country is estimated to have increased by 3% over the same period last year thanks to effective control of African Swine Fever. Some localities have seen strong increases: Binh Dinh increased by 9.5%; Nghe An increased by nearly 4%; Phu Tho increased by 3.9%.
To ensure pork supply in all situations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requires localities to control diseases well, especially African swine fever . The Ministry recommends that farmers should not rush to restock their herds due to rising pork prices; they need to apply high technology to their farming models to increase productivity, improve product quality, prevent and control diseases, ensure environmental hygiene, and contribute to sustainable livestock development.
On the part of the authorities, efforts should be made to implement solutions to contribute to stabilizing pork prices in particular and food products in general, while ensuring supply and meeting consumer demand at reasonable prices, reported the Hanoi Moi newspaper.
