Mangosteen crop failure, high price

According to many mangosteen farmers in the province, every year at this time, the gardeners have harvested the fruit. But this year, in many mangosteen growing areas, the fruit is still green and will take another month to harvest, 1-2 months later than usual. Many gardeners predict that mangosteen output could decrease by 40-70% compared to the same period last year.

Currently, the early-ripening mangosteen orchards are also producing very little. The sharp decrease in supply has caused the price of early-season mangosteens to increase. Currently, mangosteens sold in the orchards cost 90-100 thousand VND/kg; a few weeks ago, the price of this fruit was up to 120 thousand VND/kg, about 10-20 thousand VND/kg higher than the price at the beginning of last year's season.
