DNVN - On September 25, 2024, the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD decreased by 12 VND, down to 24,134 VND. Meanwhile, the USD increased, closing at 100.92 points, up 0.56 points compared to the previous trading session.
USD exchange rate on the world market
The Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the strength of the USD against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), stopped at 100.92 points, up 0.56 points compared to the trading session on September 25, 2024.
The dollar rebounded from a 14-month low against the euro in the latest session, but investors still expect the Federal Reserve to deliver another big rate cut at its November meeting, citing concerns about the labor market.
The greenback had earlier fallen sharply on September 24, after data showed US consumer confidence fell the most in three years in September, amid growing concerns about the labor market.
“The narrowing gap between wages and job opportunities is a negative signal for the U.S. economy ,” said Karl Schamotta, chief market strategist at Corpay in Toronto, Canada, which said the Fed could cut interest rates for a second time at its November meeting.
Traders now see a 59% chance of a 50 basis point cut on November 7, up from a 37% forecast a week ago and a 41% chance of a 25 basis point cut, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool.
Last week, the Fed followed market expectations with a 50 basis point interest rate cut, which Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said showed the Fed’s strong commitment to the slowing inflation situation.
Data released on September 25 showed that US new home sales fell less than expected in August.
The focus of the US economy this week will be the Personal Consumption Expenditures Index for August, scheduled to be released tomorrow, September 27.
Domestic USD exchange rate
In the domestic market, in the trading session on September 26, the State Bank of Vietnam announced the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD decreased by 12 VND, currently at 24,134 VND.
Currently, the exchange rate at commercial banks fluctuates from 23,400 - 25,450 VND/USD. The USD exchange rate is also adjusted by the State Bank of Vietnam within the buying and selling range from 23,400 to 25,450 VND/USD.
The USD exchange rate at commercial banks continued to decrease in this morning's trading session. Specifically, Vietcombank listed the buying price at 24,380 and the selling price at 24,750 VND/USD, down from the selling price of the trading session on September 25. The buying and selling prices of USD currently fluctuate between 24,000 - 25,500 VND/USD.
At BIDV, the USD to VND exchange rate decreased by 30 VND in both buying and selling directions, listed at 24,420 - 24,760 VND/USD compared to the previous trading session. Techcombank decreased by 15 VND in both directions, bringing the exchange rate down to 24,343 - 24,847 VND/USD.
At Eximbank, the USD exchange rate at the end of the day decreased by 19 VND in the buying direction, while the selling price remained the same compared to the previous session, listed at 22,999 - 24,800 VND/USD. ACB decreased by 20 VND in both directions, bringing the buying - selling exchange rate down to 24,400 - 24,760 VND/USD.
In the free market, the USD/VND exchange rate this evening increased by 20 VND for buying and 10 VND for selling, trading around 24,990 - 25,080 VND/USD.
The EUR exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam slightly decreased, currently listed at 25,657 VND (buy) - 28,358 VND (sell).
The Japanese yen exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam remains unchanged, currently at 160 VND (buy) - 177 VND (sell).
