The increase in electricity prices from May 10 is directly affecting fertilizer production costs, causing product prices to likely increase slightly in the coming time, although businesses are trying to limit this impact.
According to feedback from enterprises under the Vietnam Chemical Group (Vinachem), the adjustment of electricity prices for the production and business sector according to Decision No. 1279/QD-BCT not only puts pressure on costs but also affects the operational efficiency and competitiveness of the fertilizer industry, both domestically and for export.
At Lam Thao Super Phosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company, with an average electricity consumption of 3.7 million kWh per month, production costs are estimated to increase by more than VND4 billion per year. According to Mr. Tran Dai Nghia - Deputy General Director of the Company, the cost of fertilizer products may increase by about VND10,000 per ton, depending on the type.
In response, the company is operating a variety of energy-saving equipment such as high-capacity inverter systems, grinding motors, pelletizing motors, energy-saving LED lighting systems, and control systems that optimize power consumption. These measures aim to maintain stable production and keep prices affordable for domestic farmers.
At DAP-VINACHEM Joint Stock Company (DAP Dinh Vu), solutions to reduce costs, optimize production and management are also being vigorously implemented. According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - company representative, the goal is to maintain stable selling prices and competitiveness, despite the pressure of increasing costs due to electricity and external factors such as risks from the US's new tariff policy on exported goods.
Notably, DAP Dinh Vu also recommended that the Government provide support policies, especially tax incentives for input materials, to reduce the cost burden. In addition, expanding export markets and accessing preferential credit sources are also necessary for businesses to invest in energy-saving and emission-reducing technologies.
