Domestic durian price today

According to a survey by chogia.vn, domestic durian prices today (June 24) have not fluctuated much compared to last weekend. Major durian varieties such as RI6 and Thai durian are still purchased within the familiar price range, depending on the type and region.

Specifically, RI6 durian – the mixed type bought without selection – was purchased by traders in all three regions of the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands for around 25,000 – 28,000 VND/kg, unchanged from June 20 and 23. This is the lowest price currently, usually applied to fruits that do not meet selection standards, or have uneven ripeness.

Meanwhile, the carefully selected RI6 is still being traded at around 44,000 – 60,000 VND/kg. The Central Highlands region is currently seeing a slightly higher price at a lower range (44,000 VND/kg), reflecting the fruit quality and the level of competition in local purchasing.

In the high-end segment, Thai durian continues to maintain high prices, especially selected Thai durian, ranging from 76,000 to 84,000 VND/kg in both the Southeast and Southwest regions. In the Central Highlands, this price is even slightly higher at some purchasing points, up to 82,000 VND/kg, thanks to good output and favorable transportation conditions.

Sau Thai, similar to RI6, continues to maintain a stable price of 40,000 - 48,000 VND/kg, reflecting a clear differentiation between selected goods and floating goods on the market.

Latest durian news

Meanwhile, according to CNA (Channel News Asia), consumers in Singapore can expect a significant reduction in durian prices next July – the peak harvest season in Malaysia and parts of Vietnam.

Sam Ho, owner of Uncle Sam Durian in Singapore, said durian prices can drop by as much as 30% during peak harvest times, but noted that weather or trade conditions could cause prices to fluctuate.

“It’s early season now, so the harvest is small, so prices are still high. But by July, prices will drop sharply,” said Ho. His store imports mainly Musang King and Black Thorn varieties from Pahang, Malaysia – an area renowned for its durian quality in Southeast Asia.

Another business, Jiak Durian Mai, also confirmed that the peak season will fall in July and August, with production likely to increase several times over the current period. During the peak period, their Geylang store can consume up to 18 boxes of durians per day.

However, Mr. Shaun Lee, co-founder of this business, warned that a price war could happen, although he affirmed that quality and service remained the top priority.

Currently, Vietnam is in the middle of the harvest season, with durian production concentrated in Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Long An. It is forecasted that if export output is favorable, the price of good durian will remain high, while the bulk purchase price may increase slightly if the Chinese and Singaporean markets import more strongly.

However, with increased competition from Thai and Malaysian durians, and overlapping crop seasons in Southeast Asia, the ability to maintain consistently high prices remains a question mark.

Climate change is also having a significant impact on the harvest schedule and quality of durian, forcing traders and farmers to closely monitor the market and have appropriate selling strategies.
