In addition to price fluctuations, sustainable farming models have also shown clear effectiveness. In Lam Dong , durian gardens applying residue management processes and improving tree health from the roots have achieved an average yield of 30 tons/ha, 10% higher than the control garden. The rate of grade 1 fruit is over 85%, bringing in a net profit of over 1.3 billion VND/ha.
This model is part of the Better Life Farming (BLF) initiative, a collaboration between Bayer, IFC, Netafim and Yara, implemented in Vietnam with the National Agricultural Extension Center and WASI. The goal is to support farmers in sustainable farming, improving productivity and quality, while meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of export markets, especially China.
