In the first five months of 2025, Vietnam exported about 100,693 tons of pepper, with a total value of 690.4 million USD. Although export volume decreased by 12.5%, turnover increased sharply by 40.5% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to the average export price increasing by 61.1%, reaching 6,910 USD/ton.
However, the domestic market is still in the adjustment phase. Pepper prices in early June decreased by about 5% compared to the beginning of the year and were significantly lower than the previous month, due to sluggish export demand and unclear global inventory trends.
However, domestic inventories have also fallen sharply due to this year’s lowest crop output in five years, helping to ease selling pressure. Many traders continue to buy for speculation, expecting prices to recover in the medium to long term as global supplies tighten.
According to experts, farmers should be cautious when selling and avoid hoarding goods amid fluctuating prices. For businesses, proactively adjusting purchasing policies and finding new markets are key factors to ensure export efficiency in the second half of the year.

In the international market, pepper prices in many key countries continued to decline in early June. Only Indonesia recorded a recovery on the domestic market, thanks to speculative activities. The country is expected to enter the harvest season from July to August, but this year's output could decrease by 20-30% due to the impact of climate change.
Meanwhile, Brazil is forecasting a 20% increase in production, equivalent to more than 15,000 tons. However, selling pressure here is not large as farmers have made good profits from the coffee crop and maintained stable cash flow.
In May 2025, Vietnam exported 26,300 tons of pepper, worth 182.2 million USD, down slightly by 0.4% in volume and 1% in value compared to April, but still up 30.6% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price in the month reached 6,923 USD/ton, up sharply by 54.3% compared to the same period in 2024.
In terms of markets, exports to the US decreased by 9.3% and to Germany by 13.8%. On the contrary, exports increased sharply to India, the UK, Egypt and Russia, indicating a shift in market structure.
