On the afternoon of May 21st, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Hong Ward (Ho Chi Minh City) organized a thematic seminar on "Promoting the values of community solidarity in the digital age".
Community spirit and neighborly love are distinctive values of Vietnamese culture.
Sharing her views at the program, Dr. Vu Thi Phuong - Head of the Department of Cultural and Arts Management at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture - stated that community spirit and neighborly love are distinctive values of Vietnamese culture.
Therefore, community spirit is like a social institution where people live together based on affection, a network of mutual support in the spirit of the old saying, "It's better to have close neighbors than distant relatives."
Looking at the practical situation, Ms. Truong Thi Minh Hanh - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Hong Ward - assessed that in the area, the sense of community and neighborly solidarity between residential areas is very strong.
Ms. Hanh is still deeply moved when she remembers the days when the whole country focused on the flood-stricken central region. At that time, in just 3 days, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the ward mobilized more than 2 billion VND in cash along with hundreds of tons of rice, noodles, bottled water, and clothing.
In addition, many gifts were given to disadvantaged people in the ward, more children were able to go to school, more houses and bridges were built, and care was provided to remote areas, border regions, and islands.
"These are the kind hearts and noble gestures of the people in the neighborhoods. This action stems from affection, responsibility, and national unity," Ms. Hanh emphasized.
Technology helps us "faster," but to "go deeper," we still need human connection.
Discussing digital transformation, Dr. Phuong believes that regardless of the time or context, the value of community spirit and neighborly love will not disappear but will only shift to a new form.
"Exchanges of concern and care have shifted to digital platforms, still in the spirit of sharing and mutual support. The value of community spirit remains vibrant as we still greet and smile warmly at each other whenever we meet," Dr. Phuong expressed.
"Technology helps us work faster and update more quickly, but for something deeper, we still need human connection and direct interaction between people," Dr. Phuong further clarified.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Trung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Hong Ward - delivered a speech at the program.
Speaking at the program, Mr. Nguyen Kim Trung - Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Hong Ward - also stated that no matter how developed society becomes, the need to be connected, cared for, and to live in a compassionate community remains a very fundamental human need.
"The words of concern when someone is sick, the acts of helping each other in times of difficulty, the times when residents work together to maintain clean and beautiful alleyways and ensure neighborhood security all contribute to the bonds, trust, and warmth within the community," Mr. Trung concluded.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Hong Ward also launched the "Modern Neighborhood - Strengthening Family Bonds" movement. Each neighborhood registered a specific task, contributing to building a united, compassionate, civilized, and culturally rich residential area.
