Gold price today April 18, 2025: Gold prices fell slightly, after a strong rally in the previous session as investors took profits ahead of a long weekend, despite a weaker US dollar.

At Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), SJC gold bars were traded at VND115.5 million/tael and sold at VND118 million/tael, an increase of VND2.5 million/tael compared to the previous session. The difference between buying and selling prices is currently at VND2.5 million/tael.
DOJI Group also adjusted the price of gold bars to 115.5 million VND/tael (buy) and 118 million VND/tael (sell).
At Bao Tin Minh Chau, the buying price reached 115.5 million VND/tael, an increase of 3 million VND/tael compared to the previous session. The selling price also reached 118 million VND/tael, an increase of 2.5 million VND.
At Mi Hong Jewelry Company, the price of Mi Hong gold at the time of survey was listed at 117-121 million VND/tael for buying and selling. Compared to yesterday, the gold price decreased by 100,000 VND/tael for buying and remained unchanged for selling.

World gold price today April 18, 2025 and world gold price fluctuation chart in the past 24 hours
According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4am today, Vietnam time, was 3,303.45 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 1.36% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,237 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 104.5 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is 13.6 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

"Gold could see a short-term correction due to this week's spectacular rally and ahead of a rare long weekend in the market. There is some risk that a trade deal could be announced over the weekend, most likely with Japan. However, gold's trajectory remains higher as uncertainty and deep concerns continue to weigh on asset markets," said Tai Wong, an independent metals trader.
Gold prices rose 3.6%, boosted by US President Donald Trump's order to launch an investigation into possible tariffs on all critical mineral imports, in addition to reviewing pharmaceutical and chip imports.
Meanwhile, President Trump on Wednesday hailed “big progress” in tariff talks with Japan, in one of the first face-to-face talks since he imposed a series of tariffs on global imports, roiling markets and raising fears of a recession.
The U.S. dollar index (.DXY) rebounded on Thursday but is still headed for a weekly loss. A weaker greenback makes gold cheaper for holders of other currencies.
"We remain bullish on gold. However, short-term corrections are likely as short-term traders take profits or perhaps face margin calls due to another round of equity liquidation," said consultancy Metals Focus.
Spot silver fell 0.9% to $32.46 an ounce, platinum fell 1% to $957.18 and palladium fell 2.3% to $949.72.
