On November 29, the General Statistics Office announced that the CPI in November 2023 increased by 0.25% compared to the previous month. Of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups, 8 groups increased in price compared to the previous month, 2 groups decreased in price, while the group of household appliances and equipment remained unchanged.
On average, in the first 11 months of 2023, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.22% compared to the average of the first 11 months of 2022. Analyzing the factors that caused the CPI increase, the statistics agency said that the average price index of air tickets in the first 11 months of 2023 increased by 87.29% over the same period last year, mainly due to the costs of airlines and the high travel demand of people, especially during holidays, Tet, and summer vacations, which affected air transport prices.
Along with that, train ticket prices increased by 29.67%; bus ticket prices increased by 7.43%.
In 11 months, the average price index of the education group increased by 7.35% over the same period last year due to some localities increasing tuition fees for the 2023-2024 school year according to the roadmap of Decree No. 81/2021/ND-CP, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.45 percentage points.
The price index of housing and construction materials increased by 6.67% over the same period last year, causing the overall CPI to increase by 1.25 percentage points, due to the increase in cement and sand prices following the price of input materials, along with the high increase in housing rental prices.
The food price index increased by 6.17%, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.23 percentage points. Of which, rice prices increased by 5.76%, following the export price of rice, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.15 percentage points. The food price index increased by 2.48%, mainly due to increased consumer demand during holidays and Tet, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.53 percentage points.
Also during the period from the beginning of the year until now, the average household electricity price index increased by 4.55%, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.15 percentage points due to increased electricity demand and the Vietnam Electricity Group adjusting the average retail electricity price.
The price index of the beverage and tobacco group increased by 3.36% over the same period last year, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.09 percentage points, due to increased production materials and labor costs.
The price index of other goods and services increased by 4.51% over the same period last year, causing the CPI to increase by 0.16 percentage points, mainly due to the increase in health insurance services according to the new basic salary from July 2023.
Core inflation in November 2023 increased by 0.16% compared to the previous month and by 3.15% compared to the same period last year. On average, core inflation in the first 11 months of 2023 increased by 4.27% compared to the same period in 2022, higher than the average CPI increase (up 3.22%).
The main reason is that the average domestic gasoline price in the first 11 months of 2023 decreased by 12.12% compared to the same period last year, the gas price decreased by 7.5%, which is a factor that restrains the CPI growth rate but belongs to the group of goods excluded from the list of basic inflation calculations.
Compared to the same period last year, CPI in November 2023 increased by 3.45%. Compared to December 2022, CPI in November increased by 3.46%, of which 10 groups of goods increased in price and 1 group of goods decreased in price.
