Global oil prices rose sharply last week as geopolitical factors and concerns about supply disruptions continued to dominate global investor sentiment. Overall, Brent crude oil prices rose 3.6% last week, while WTI crude oil prices rose 2.7%.
At the beginning of this week's trading session (June 23), world oil prices fell sharply after Iran's surprise retaliation against a US military base in Qatar.
At the end of the session on June 23, Brent oil price decreased by 7.2%, down to 71.48 USD/barrel, while WTI oil price also decreased by 7.2%, down to 68.51 USD/barrel.
World oil prices continued to fall sharply on June 24, hitting a two-week low. Oil prices plunged on expectations that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran would reduce the risk of disruption to oil supplies in the Middle East.
At the close of trading on June 24, Brent oil prices fell 6.1% to $67.14/barrel. Meanwhile, WTI oil prices fell 6% to $64.37/barrel.
At the beginning of today's trading session (June 25), world oil prices reversed and increased. According to data from Oilprice, at 7:16 a.m. on June 25 (Vietnam time), Brent oil price was listed at 67.86 USD/barrel, up 1.07%. WTI oil price was at 65.06 USD/barrel, also up 1.07% compared to the previous session.
In the domestic market, according to the price management cycle, the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance will announce new retail gasoline prices tomorrow.
Based on the developments in world oil prices, oil and gas businesses believe that domestic gasoline prices may be adjusted up further in tomorrow's adjustment period, but the increase will be less than the previous adjustment period.
Specifically, if the regulatory agency does not affect the Petroleum Price Stabilization Fund, domestic gasoline prices tomorrow may increase by 320-420 VND/liter, while diesel prices may increase by about 530-630 VND/liter.
In case the regulatory agency spends the Stabilization Fund, gasoline prices may increase less.
If forecasts are correct, domestic RON 95 gasoline prices will increase for the fifth consecutive time tomorrow.
In the most recent operating period (June 19), Gasoline price RON 95 (the popular type on the market) increased by 1,280 VND/liter, retail price jumped to 21,240 VND/liter.
Similarly, the price of E5 RON 92 gasoline increased by VND1,170/liter, the retail price reached VND20,630/liter.
Diesel price increased by 1,450 VND/liter, selling price at 19,150 VND/liter.
