Linking consumption of agricultural products of the island

With a dense river system, Phu Tan has many favorable conditions for developing cultivation, especially glutinous rice, vegetables and aquaculture. The total cultivated area of the locality is about 25,000 hectares, of which the specialized color growing area is more than 1,022 hectares. In recent times, the district has promoted the conversion of crop structure, aiming to effectively exploit the potential and advantages of the locality. Thereby, helping to increase the value and competitiveness of key agricultural products, local advantageous products, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction, associated with the implementation of the national target program on new rural construction.

Implementing the plan to convert crop structure from ineffective rice land to vegetables, colors and fruit trees in the period of 2021 - 2025 of the Provincial People's Committee, the People's Committee of Phu Tan district has specified the goals, tasks and solutions in Plan 4351/KH-UBND to deploy to sectors and localities. Every year, the district organizes delegations to survey the results of linking production and consumption of agricultural products associated with crop structure conversion, in order to propose solutions to improve efficiency.

In the period of 2021 - 2025, the converted area on rice land in Phu Tan district is more than 2,964 hectares. Of which, farmers focus on switching to growing water spinach for seeds, bringing economic efficiency 1.7 - 2 times higher than rice. With various vegetables, more than 290 hectares have been converted, reaching 113.6% of the plan. The area converted to growing fruit trees is 318.64 hectares.

Phu Tan District People's Committee mobilizes farmers to cooperate in production with enterprises

Realizing the effectiveness of linking agricultural product consumption, Phu Tan District People's Committee has actively invited businesses to join in linking with farmers. The linked area has increased steadily over the years, from more than 325 hectares in 2021 to more than 1,203 hectares in 2023. The company actively linking with local farmers is Antesco Company, with a soybean vegetable area of 159 hectares in 2025, creating a premise to promote the shift in crop structure, develop raw material areas, and direct farmers to produce according to the needs of businesses.

In particular, Kim Vung Private Enterprise has linked up to consume water spinach for seeds with an area of 225.6 hectares in 2021. This area will increase to 1,080 hectares in 2023, with 290 hectares in the 2025 winter-spring crop alone. This is the leading enterprise in promoting farmers to switch to growing water spinach for seeds in Phu Tan district. In addition, Syngenta Vietnam Co., Ltd., FOODANT Co., Ltd. ... also participate in linking up to consume agricultural products with farmers.

The drastic implementation from the agricultural sector and localities has brought about efficiency, helping farmers exploit land resources reasonably, applying scientific and technological advances in production. At the same time, promoting the use of mechanization to reduce labor, applying advanced irrigation systems such as sprinkler irrigation, automatic and semi-automatic drip irrigation.

However, in the process of linking agricultural product consumption and crop conversion, Phu Tan district still has difficulties that need to be resolved. In particular, some localities have not paid due attention to the goal of crop conversion. The production thinking of a part of the people is slow to change; the agricultural land area is still fragmented and small, not ensuring enough supply of raw materials according to the requirements of enterprises, causing difficulties for agricultural production in the direction of goods.

To continue to improve the effectiveness of linking agricultural product consumption and crop conversion, the People's Committee of Phu Tan district requires the following administrative units to arrange to strengthen propaganda and mobilize farmers to replicate effective models, pioneering in crop conversion. Apply smart agriculture in production; improve the capacity of cadres, civil servants, public employees and people in implementing crop restructuring.

At the same time, assign staff to regularly connect with farmers, promptly support farmers when they encounter difficulties and problems. Strengthen trade promotion activities, build brands and trademarks for key products, OCOP products (One Commune One Product Program) of the locality, combined with taking advantage of e-commerce platforms to expand the market. Continue to consolidate and improve the quality of cooperatives to promote the role of a bridge in linking production and consumption of agricultural products for farmers...
