World oil prices today August 19
On the morning of August 19, world oil prices remained stable after many sessions of strong fluctuations. On the Oilprice exchange, Brent crude oil traded around 65.94 USD/barrel, up slightly by 0.12%. WTI crude oil remained at 62.82 USD/barrel, up 0.03 USD. Investors are waiting for the results of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, after the US-Russia summit last weekend failed to make progress.
Markets were hoping that a peace scenario could help ease pressure on oil and gas prices in Europe. However, the controversy over India’s purchase of Russian oil has raised new concerns. The White House criticized New Delhi for helping Moscow turn embargoed crude into a high-value export. The comment immediately triggered increased buying in the market.
In addition to geopolitical factors, investors are also closely monitoring US monetary policy. This week, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will give a speech at the Jackson Hole conference, which is considered a signal for the direction of interest rates in the coming time.
