On April 12, Google launched YouTube Premium in Vietnam without any prior announcement. The company offered the cheapest price of 49,000 VND/month for students. Meanwhile, the individual subscription price (general) is 79,000 VND/month, the family package is 149,000 VND/month.
All are based on a one-month period and it is unclear whether there is an option to pay annually. Typically, those who choose to pay annually will get a more favorable price.
Despite paying monthly, YouTube Premium prices in Vietnam are still among the cheapest in the world . Specifically, the cost for a personal package is equivalent to 3.37 USD/month, ranking 5th in the list of countries and territories where people have to spend the least money to experience YouTube's ad-free video and music viewing service.
The cheapest in the world right now is India. The South Asian country of one billion people is also often the market with the best service prices, not just Google. Indians only spend $1.56/month to watch YouTube without ads. Turkey, Argentina and the Philippines are ranked 2nd, 3rd, 4th with costs of $1.61, $2.46, $2.89 respectively. While Vietnam is ranked 5th ($3.37) on the list, South Africa is ranked 6th, "closing" the group of countries with YouTube Premium prices under $4/month.
Users in Vietnam can purchase YouTube Premium using international payment cards or MoMo e-wallet (mobile devices only).
Some developed countries have YouTube Premium prices above 10 USD/month such as Italy ($11.62), US ($11.99), UK ($13.43), Switzerland ($15.7)... even higher. The prices listed are based on individual subscription packages.
Users can save money by purchasing a family package (up to 6 participants, including the team leader) and dividing the monthly payment equally among the members. This is also a popular option because it brings economic benefits without affecting personal needs because each member will use a separate account based on the email they register.
To pay for YouTube Premium in Vietnam, users on computers access youtube.com/premium and log in to the Google account they want to purchase the service. However, this option is currently only available for one form of payment via international card (debit or credit). The possibility of Google updating more options is very unlikely due to global common policies.
Meanwhile, mobile users will have an additional option to pay with MoMo e-wallet if they do not have an international payment card available. MoMo is now integrated and accepted as a legal payment method linked to Apple accounts (used on devices running iOS, iPadOS, macOS) and Google (Android devices). This option requires users to purchase subscriptions directly from the feature in the YouTube application installed on the device, not using the browser on the mobile device.
A small note for users in Vietnam is that the price of YouTube Premium on Android will be 30,000 VND cheaper than on the iOS platform because Google has to pay a commission fee to Apple if there is a purchase transaction within the Apple ecosystem.
