On May 20, Hoa Binh Provincial Police said they had successfully rescued 11 students trapped in a stream area due to heavy rain.
Previously, at around 4:30 p.m. on May 17, Thong Nhat Ward Police (Hoa Binh City) received a report that 11 students were trapped while bathing in Cai Stream due to sudden heavy rain causing the stream water to rise and flow rapidly, and were unable to cross the water to return.
According to the authorities, the incident occurred in the Cai stream area, group 5, Thong Nhat ward, Hoa Binh city, Hoa Binh.
Faced with that situation, the forces of Hoa Binh Provincial Police mobilized 12 officers and soldiers using 05 motorbikes to easily access the scene (due to slippery roads and limited visibility) and 1 fire truck to the scene along with local people to deploy search and rescue.

By 6:00 p.m. the same day, authorities had reached and brought all 11 students past the dangerous area and handed them over to their families.
