On the afternoon of May 29th, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) officially responded to this issue. According to the response, the University has received several comments regarding the Logic questions in the second round of the 2026 National Competency Assessment Exam. Some comments suggest similarities between certain Logic questions in the exam and those in international tests, and express concerns about the possibility that some tutoring centers have exploited these question types during their preparation for candidates.

VNU-HCM provided information on the process of building the question bank, the review and evaluation of questions in the Logic section, and clarified issues of public concern.

It is stated that the Logic section is one of the important components of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's Competency Assessment Exam, aiming to evaluate candidates' thinking ability and reasoning skills. Unlike sections testing memorization of knowledge, this section focuses on assessing higher-order thinking skills such as: logical reasoning; identifying patterns and relationships; analyzing conditions, facts, and constraints; and the ability to reason and draw conclusions in situations with multiple sources of information.

Logic questions are designed in various formats and contexts to comprehensively assess candidates' thinking abilities. Globally , many standardized tests and international admissions exams such as the LSAT, GMAT, GRE, and SAT also utilize question types that assess logical thinking, reasoning, and analysis as a crucial component of their test structure.

In terms of professional expertise, logic problems in aptitude tests are often constructed based on several common reasoning models such as: ordering; grouping by condition; combining ordering and grouping; conditional inference; or argumentative analysis. Because they all aim to assess core thinking skills, questions belonging to the same format group may have certain similarities in logical structure or problem-solving approach. This is a common characteristic in the field of testing and aptitude assessment, but it does not mean that the questions are directly copied or translated from one another.

During the process of constructing the Logic questions, experts from VNU-HCM researched and referenced question-building methods currently used in international testing, thereby developing questions suitable for the assessment objectives, educational context, and cultural characteristics of Vietnam.

Candidates participating in the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's Aptitude Assessment Exam

Based on feedback from candidates and public opinion, VNU-HCM has reviewed, assessed, and evaluated the logic questions in the second round of the 2026 National Competency Assessment Exam. The results show that:

The logic questions in the VNU-HCM's aptitude test ensure scientific accuracy, are clearly worded, provide all necessary data, and meet the objective of assessing candidates' logical thinking abilities. The questions differ in context, data, characters, conditions, problem formulation, and answer options from questions in comparable international exams.

Some questions share similarities in reasoning patterns or logical models with questions in international aptitude tests. This is a common characteristic in the field of testing, as aptitude tests often use basic logical reasoning models such as ordering, grouping, conditional reasoning, or elimination to assess candidates' thinking abilities.

The review board concluded that similarity in logical form is not a basis for concluding that a question was directly translated or copied from a question in another test. In fact, in many international standardized tests, questions of the same logic form may have similar reasoning structures but differ in context, facts, and content implementation.

Based on the review results and professional records, VNU-HCM stated that it has not found any evidence to suggest that the Logic questions in the second round of the 2026 National Competency Assessment Exam are verbatim translations or direct copies of questions from foreign exams.

VNU-HCM also affirmed that it has not recorded any signs or evidence to suggest that the question bank or exam papers for the second round of the 2026 National Competency Assessment Exam have been leaked, accessed illegally, or used improperly. The procedures for managing the question bank and securing the exam papers are strictly implemented at all stages to ensure the fairness and objectivity of the exam.
