Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Danh Cuong, head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, has received the title "Lecturer voted by students" for 8 consecutive years, a record at Hanoi Medical University.

On November 17, Hanoi Medical University awarded the "Student-voted Lecturer" award for the 2022-2023 academic year to 6 lecturers, corresponding to 6 blocks, from Y1 to Y6 (first-year to final-year students).

Among them, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Danh Cuong was voted the most by Y4 students (fourth year). He was also in the top 5 most favorite lecturers voted by Y6 students.

This is the eighth consecutive time that Mr. Danh Cuong has received this title, also a record in the 13 years that Hanoi Medical University has organized the vote. The criteria set by the school include: knowledge and professional qualifications, pedagogical style and teaching methods, responsibility and enthusiasm, the ability to encourage creativity and interest in learning for students.

Mr. Cuong said "unimaginable" before the love of students.

"As a doctor, patients evaluate me. As a lecturer, students evaluate me. Being voted for by students like this is extremely valuable to me," said Professor Cuong. He has worked for more than 40 years and was once the director of the Central Maternity Hospital.

Mr. Cuong shared with him that teaching is not for the title but the responsibility of a teacher to pass on knowledge to students, especially medical knowledge not only about diseases but also about people.

As a lecturer at Hanoi Medical University since 1991, Mr. Cuong said he always consults books, learns teaching methods, and imparts knowledge from previous generations of teachers. He also updates new knowledge so that his lectures are suitable for the development trends of society, the medical industry, and the needs of learners.

However, along with the changes, he still maintains the traditional way of teaching with chalk and board, teaching through clinical cases.

"Whenever I have the chance, I help students approach special cases in the hospital so that they can understand each case and each disease and guide them on how to best help the patient," said Mr. Cuong. He guessed that perhaps because he taught exactly what the students wanted, he was loved and voted for a lot.

As one of the students who voted for Mr. Cuong, Pham Duc Anh, a 6th grade student, shared: "Mr. Cuong teaches very well and practically. Each theoretical part is associated with a clinical story and he always chooses the most interesting and valuable stories in his 40 years of working in the profession to share with students."

Duc Anh was also impressed by the way Mr. Cuong cared for his students. He always made sure that students had enough space to study, eat, and sleep when they went to the hospital for clinical trials. Many poor students were supported by him to buy documents and study materials. Some students with serious illnesses and poor families were helped by the teacher and he mobilized support from benefactors.

"He always pays attention to school activities, especially student activities, often participating as a speaker, judge or simply coming to cheer and encourage," Duc Anh said.

For Thanh Tung, a Y4 student, Mr. Cuong's practical lectures help him grasp knowledge more easily.

"The teacher teaches well, is funny, and understands student psychology. I think there is no student who does not love him," Tung said.
