Coherent has a long history as a vertically integrated manufacturing company with world-class innovation, products, and customers. Coherent's global network includes 130 facilities in 24 countries.
Mr. Gary Kapusta, Executive Vice President, Global Supply Chain Director of the Group, said that Coherent is pleased to welcome and do business in Vietnam. The Group started its operations in Vietnam more than a decade ago in VSIP1 Industrial Park, Binh Duong Province (formerly) and currently has a service center in Hanoi. To date, Coherent has employed more than 2,000 employees in Vietnam and Vietnam plays a central role in global manufacturing, product development and photonic technology innovation.
On behalf of the Government and Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung congratulated Coherent Group and highly appreciated the support and drastic participation of Dong Nai province throughout the process of preparing and implementing the project investment.
Emphasizing that the inauguration of the Coherent Factory in Nhon Trach Industrial Park has special significance for Coherent, Dong Nai Province and Vietnam, towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - US diplomatic relations, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam is developing strategic industries, including semiconductors. Today's event also contributes to the practical and effective realization of the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam - US relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
"Coherent will make practical contributions, helping Vietnam become an important link and a semiconductor center in the future," the Deputy Prime Minister expected.

Recognizing and praising the accompanying role of the Ministry of Finance and the National Innovation Center (NIC) in promoting the development of the semiconductor and high-tech industry ecosystem in Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the inauguration of the Coherent Factory is a worthy achievement for Vietnam's efforts in attracting investment in strategic technology industries, especially semiconductors and high technology.
Vietnam is entering a period of strategic transformation in the context of the fourth industrial revolution taking place strongly with remarkable breakthroughs in AI, semiconductor technology, biology, renewable energy, quantum technology and big data - factors that are reshaping the global value chain and profoundly changing the structure of economies.
Our country needs to focus on making the most of opportunities for rapid and breakthrough development based on knowledge, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation to overcome the middle-income trap and aim to become a developed country by 2045.
In particular, Resolution 57 of the Politburo identifies that science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation are decisive factors for the development of countries; are prerequisites and the best opportunities for Vietnam to develop richly and powerfully in the new era, the era of national development.
To effectively implement the above orientations, Vietnam is actively implementing many synchronous solutions: From institutional reform, perfecting synchronous and modern infrastructure, to developing an innovation ecosystem, promoting research, development and application of new technologies.

Regarding foreign investment cooperation, Vietnam prioritizes selective investment attraction, targeting high-tech projects, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, research and development, dual conversion, clean energy, and synchronous infrastructure construction, etc.
In 2024, Vietnam will be ranked 44/133 countries and economies in terms of innovation and digital transformation index, up 2 places compared to 2023 and is the only country that has always had innovation results higher than its development level over the past 14 years.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the fact that Coherent - one of the world's leading corporations in the field of materials, equipment and components serving the semiconductor and electronics industries... continues to expand its investment activities in Vietnam will open up many opportunities for extensive cooperation in human resource training, knowledge and technology transfer.
At the same time, this project will also create thousands of stable, quality jobs for thousands of highly skilled and technical workers. In particular, Coherent's products will directly serve many of the world's leading corporations in the fields of AI and big data, thereby enhancing Vietnam's position in the global technology value chain.

In-depth investment, high added value
In order to promote the potential and advantages of both sides, making Coherent Group a "strategic partner" of Dong Nai and Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Group continue to expand its investment in depth in Vietnam, especially in stages with higher added value in the semiconductor industry value chain. Along with that, it is necessary to pay attention to training and using high-quality human resources in Vietnam, strengthening connections with research institutes and universities to form a comprehensive and sustainable innovation ecosystem.
The Deputy Prime Minister hopes that the Group will effectively implement the cooperation model between 3 parties: State - school - enterprise through cooperation with NIC and Ho Chi Minh City National University in training programs and exchange of students, interns, and postgraduates in semiconductor and AI.
Suggesting the study of establishing representative offices, R&D centers as well as labs and experimental production facilities at NIC and high-tech zones in Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister said that these are the focal points to support the Group in accessing "outstanding" mechanisms and policies, "flexible" technology testing environments and "strategic" public-private partnership programs in Vietnam.

For Dong Nai province, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested early stabilization of the organization and focusing on socio-economic development tasks to fully exploit the potential and development space of the new province after merging with Binh Phuoc province.
In addition, continue to improve the investment and business environment in a transparent, stable, and open manner, approaching international practices; promote administrative procedure reform, digital transformation, ensure the smooth, synchronous, and effective implementation of the 2-level local government model; invest in a synchronous transport infrastructure system, develop high-quality human resources, especially in the fields of semiconductors and AI; prepare clean land funds to attract strategic investors; maintain substantive dialogue mechanisms with businesses and investors; promptly receive, handle, and remove difficulties and obstacles of investors.
"The Government is committed to always accompanying and creating favorable conditions for domestic and foreign investors to invest effectively, sustainably and long-term in Vietnam," the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed and wished the Coherent Nhon Trach Factory to operate effectively, develop strongly and sustainably and contribute positively to the overall development of the province and the country.
