On September 10, both Russia and Ukraine reported fierce fighting on June 9, after it was reported that German and American armor had been seen on the battlefield, signaling that a counter-offensive by Kyiv had begun.
Hot fighting in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia
TASS news agency quoted a report by Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov saying that the Russian army had repelled six Ukrainian attacks and defended the defense line in Donetsk province (eastern Ukraine) in the past day. Moscow announced that it had eliminated more than 400 Ukrainian soldiers in these battles.

"Up to 410 Ukrainian soldiers, four tanks, eight infantry fighting vehicles, seven motor vehicles, one US-made M777 artillery system and one Msta-B howitzer have been eliminated in battles over the past 24 hours," Konashenkov said.
In the southern Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, Mr. Konashenkov said Russian forces killed about 680 Ukrainian soldiers and destroyed 35 tanks, 11 infantry fighting vehicles, and a French-made 155mm Caesar self-propelled gun.
President Putin says Ukraine has begun counterattack
Meanwhile, there were almost no independent Ukrainian reports on the situation on the front line on June 9. According to Reuters, it is currently impossible to assess whether Ukraine has penetrated Russia's defense system.
Rare information released by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the evening of June 9 said that there had been 27 armed clashes in the eastern part of the country. According to the ministry, Russia had carried out 58 air strikes and 31 artillery strikes on Ukrainian targets during the day. Civilians were killed and injured.
Meanwhile, Ukraine confirmed that it had conducted 16 airstrikes on Russia but did not provide details on the locations or casualties on both sides. Earlier, Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky said he had discussed tactics and "achievements" with military leaders but revealed very little about the information.
Ukrainian military analyst Oleksander Musiyenko said Kyiv was making good progress. However, he dismissed reports from Russian President Vladimir Putin that a major Ukrainian counteroffensive had taken place in the south-central Zaporizhzhia region.
“This is not the main stage of the counteroffensive. It is just a stage and not a major impetus from which one can expect a quick breakthrough and the recovery of hundreds of square kilometers of territory,” according to analyst Musiyenko.

Ms Thomas-Greenfield said she was “deeply concerned” about the growing military cooperation between Russia and Iran, which she said was further facilitating Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.
To reinforce the accusation, Ms. Thomas-Greenfield cited a report released by the US on the same day, which documented how Iran had provided Russia with hundreds of attack UAVs, as well as equipment to produce UAVs.
According to the US ambassador, in recent weeks, Russia has used these UAVs to attack the capital Kyiv and "terrorize Ukrainian civilians". Russia and Iran have not commented on the accusations. However, these two countries have previously repeatedly denied information related to the provision of attack UAVs.

On June 10, the governor of Russia's Kursk region, Roman Starovoy, said that a drone had crashed at an oil storage facility in the region, but caused no damage. On the same day, Moscow informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the drone attack on the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant, which is previously connected to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which is controlled by Russia, according to TASS. The IAEA said that Director General Rafael Grossi would independently assess the information.
