Plant a tree of gratitude
In the last days of April, Phung Ngoc Liem Primary School was bright red. Red of the flag, red of the uniform. The image of students holding the national flag and singing the song "As if there were Uncle Ho" on the great victory day during the flag-raising ceremony at the beginning of the week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification was posted on social networks and received much love and praise.

Perhaps the first and second graders cannot fully understand the meaning of the great day of April 30, 1975, but through activities such as performing arts, interacting with soldiers or schools decorated with the theme of "great victory day", it has partly fostered in them pride in their homeland and country, and in the red flag with yellow star.
Over the years, in addition to focusing on improving the quality of teaching and learning for teachers and students, Phung Ngoc Liem Primary School has also organized many activities to train children's skills and thinking, including educating gratitude. Because gratitude is the foundation for forming a person's personality.

Every year, on national holidays and events, the school organizes gratitude activities. On Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, in addition to launching a movement for students to compete to achieve good results in training and studying to present to teachers who are directly teaching them, the school board also organizes trips to visit retired teachers.
The best wishes, heartfelt gratitude, and gifts prepared by the students themselves really touched the teachers - who have devoted their whole lives to the cause of educating people. The students heard stories from many years ago... Until now, generations of students of the school are still obedient and good at studying thanks to the guidance of their teachers. Through such activities, the students will be further nurtured in the spirit of "respecting teachers".

Or on July 27 and December 22, the school will organize for the children to visit heroic Vietnamese mothers and wounded soldiers in the city. By meeting directly with people who have been through war, the consequences of which left pain both inside and outside the body, the children will understand a part of the happiness they are enjoying.
Just recently, before the end of the 2024 - 2025 school year, the school organized a trip for more than 100 students to visit the "red addresses" of the province: Dong Noc Nang relic, Provincial Museum, Southern amateur music memorial site and musician Cao Van Lau... Each place the students go to will learn about a typical beauty of their hometown Bac Lieu (now Ca Mau province) such as the history of steadfast struggle during the war, the process of forming the world intangible heritage of amateur music, the life of talented musician Cao Van Lau and the development of their home province in the current period.
Nguyen Van Trang, a 5th grader, shared: "This is a really meaningful trip before I leave school and enter a new school. Thanks to trips like this, I see how beautiful my homeland is. I am even more grateful to our ancestors who sacrificed their blood and bones so that we can live in peace and happiness."

Sow the seeds of kindness
Each child is like a seed. The responsibility of the family, school and society is to sow the seeds of kindness so that the seeds can grow, spread shade, produce sweet fruits and fragrant flowers. That is why Phung Ngoc Liem Primary School always directs children to activities to share love and kindness with those around them.
Last year, when Typhoon Yagi raged in the northern provinces, at the end of the country, Bac Lieu people were also worried about their fellow countrymen. Phung Ngoc Lieu Primary School immediately launched a donation campaign, with the spirit of "The healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", "Blood flows, the intestines soften", the school did not organize fun activities on the Mid-Autumn Festival to save money, combined with donations from staff, teachers, students, and parents, up to 106 million VND.
Students save money on breakfast and pocket money, some do not hesitate to break their piggy banks to support their friends in the North... The value they bring is certainly not measured in material terms, not just in sharing love, but it is also a valuable lesson about the spirit of mutual love and support in times of hardship of the Vietnamese people.
Faced with the increasing problem of school violence and indifference to those around them, Phung Ngoc Liem Primary School always cares about awakening and nurturing kind hearts through life stories and concrete actions. That is sharing pens, shirts, bicycles with friends in the same school and class who are in difficult circumstances at the beginning of the school year, Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day... when launched by the school.

In addition, the school board always creates conditions for students to participate in social activities so that they can see that in life there are many difficult, hard, and deprived situations. Several times a year, students go to Bac Lieu General Hospital, the Provincial Social Protection Center with their teachers to prepare meals for poor patients and people in difficult circumstances...
The joy of students when "young people do small things"

Not only teaching and guiding students to love and treat people around them kindly, the school also teaches them to love the school and keep the classroom clean. In the school yard, there is a "common house" to store soft drink bottles and scrap paper. After each class, the students are often reminded by teachers to clean their seats and take their trash to the right place. More than 1,000 students are that much aware of keeping the school and classroom clean. A piece of scrap paper in the middle of the school yard is also picked up and thrown away in the right place. And just that small action will gradually form in the students a love and respect for the surrounding environment.
In addition, every year after selling trash from the "common house", the school will carry out meaningful tasks, in the 2023-2024 school year, making a map of Vietnam (worth 9 million VND), in the 2024-2025 school year, making a sea and island landmark with the theme "Pride of a strip of land and rivers" (worth 10 million VND) on the school campus to serve extracurricular lessons and activities.
Organizing activities to guide children towards the values of truth, goodness and beauty is not an easy journey, but with the aspiration to nurture seeds for the future, the teachers of Phung Ngoc Liem Primary School are not afraid of difficulties or hardships.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet - the school's principal, confided: "Today, educating students is not only through lectures but also through real-life stories, not only teaching children knowledge but also aiming at comprehensive development. The school always strives to nurture young generations who are not only good at knowledge, proficient in life skills but also have gratitude and a heart towards the community."
