Maintain focus on the rhythm of the piano keys.

In recent years, the image of young children sitting at the piano, their hands gracefully gliding across the black and white keys, has become familiar in many families. The trend of enrolling children in art classes, especially piano lessons, stems not only from a desire for an additional skill but also from the comprehensive intellectual, emotional, and character-building benefits that this subject offers.

Scientific studies have repeatedly confirmed that music has a positive impact on the brain. With piano, children must simultaneously coordinate their eyes reading sheet music, their ears listening to the melody, their hands manipulating the keys, and their brains processing the rhythm. This multi-sensory coordination helps improve concentration, reflexes, and problem-solving skills.

Experts recommend that children should begin learning music between the ages of 5 and 7, the "golden age" for intellectual development.

Ms. Le Thuy Tien, owner of Tien Tien Art Center in Phan Dinh Phung ward and also a piano teacher, said: "The long learning process will gradually increase the difficulty of the pieces, equivalent to the training curriculum at professional schools. This creates a foundation for children to develop their musical skills in a solid way."

Learning piano is not something that happens overnight; it requires persistent practice. A new piece of music may take weeks, even months, to perfect. For children, overcoming feelings of discouragement to continue practicing is a vivid lesson in perseverance and discipline.

Tran Vu Tue Tam, a student at Tien Tien Art Center, shared: "At the center, I practice for 1-1.5 hours each day, and at home, I usually spend 30-60 minutes playing the piano. Every time I put my hands on the keyboard, I feel more relaxed after a day of studying."

Besides improving musical skills, learning piano also supports concentration and learning in other subjects. Mr. Tran Hop Quang, father of Tran Vu Tue Tam, shared: "After 4 years of studying music, my daughter has undergone many positive changes. Her concentration is better. Since first grade, she has been able to sit and concentrate on studying math and Vietnamese for more than an hour without needing much prompting from her parents. Piano is truly effective in helping children develop perseverance."

Moreover, music is also an effective stress-reducing therapy. In Quang and Thơm's family, whenever the children are tired from studying or the parents feel stressed, the whole family asks the children to play a piece of music. The sound of the music becomes a "remedy" that helps create a more relaxed and peaceful family atmosphere.

Learning piano, or any art form for that matter, requires not only talent but also investment of time, effort, and encouragement from family. As living standards improve, many families are increasingly introducing their children to the arts to nurture their talents and cultivate their souls. The piano not only holds artistic value but also serves as a companion, helping children develop their intellect, emotions, character, and life skills.
