- In recent times, the Lang Son Border Guard has not only performed the task of protecting national sovereignty but also become a solid support, accompanying the people in economic development and improving their lives. With creative and practical models, the Lang Son Border Guard has helped people in the border areas "settle down", creating a strong position of people's hearts in the homeland's northernmost land.
Lang Son border area is an important area for national defense and security with complex terrain and difficult life for ethnic minorities. Determining that border protection cannot be separated from building a prosperous life for the people, the Party Committee and the Provincial Border Guard Command have implemented many breakthrough policies and measures.
Colonel Luong Manh Vong, Deputy Political Commissar of Lang Son Border Guard Command, emphasized: In order to concretize the implementation of resolutions of party congresses at all levels, the Party Committee and the Border Guard Command of Lang Son have proposed policies and measures to deploy and implement synchronously and specifically border work. In particular, strengthening mass mobilization, building and replicating good and effective models and practices is an important task. With the motto "towards the grassroots", promoting the tradition of solidarity and close attachment with people in the border, officers and soldiers of Lang Son Border Guard always determine that "The station is home, the border is homeland, people of all ethnic groups are blood brothers", thereby implementing well the motto "3 sticking, 4 together".
Accordingly, to help people in the border areas feel secure in their production and attachment to their homeland, Lang Son Border Guard has focused on economic development models and social security support that bring direct results. One of those effective economic models is the "Golden Camellia Tree" model implemented by Ba Son Border Guard Station in coordination with philanthropists in Ba Son commune from 2021 to present.
In 2025, Ba Son Border Guard Station will continue to support people in building a model garden. Specifically, last June, the station supported the planting of 150 yellow camellia trees with a total cost of 170 million VND to build a model garden. Each tree is 1.5 - 2.5m high, promising to flower in the first year if well cared for, following technical procedures. It is known that the whole province has planted 9,970 yellow camellia trees, worth nearly 1 billion VND. Of which, more than 1,000 trees are planted in border areas, 8,950 trees are planted in families.
Mr. Duong Trung Ly, Ba Son commune, owner of the model garden selected by Ba Son Border Guard Station to build a model in June 2025, shared: Before, my family never thought that we could develop the economy from such a valuable crop. When the officers and soldiers of Ba Son Border Guard Station gave us the tree seedlings, we not only felt grateful but also realized that this was a great opportunity to change our lives. Therefore, my family will try our best to take care of the garden and ensure that it grows well, not letting down the hearts of the officers and soldiers.
In addition to economic development models, Lang Son Border Guard also pays special attention to supporting the repair and construction of houses to help people "settle down". Responding to the Movement "Eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", Lang Son Border Guard has supported 809 working days and 255 million VND in cash, helping 335 households have solid houses, achieving 100% of the plan set out from the beginning of 2024 to present.
Lieutenant Colonel Do Van Phuc, Political Commissar of Bao Lam Border Guard Station, said: Many people in the border areas, especially poor and single households, live in makeshift, dilapidated houses, and are always in fear every time the rainy and stormy season comes. Realizing that, we have proactively coordinated with local authorities to check households in need of support, and mobilized officers and soldiers to join hands to help. Not only providing material support, we also directly participate in labor days, transporting materials, building and painting houses with people. The image of officers and soldiers building houses with people is not only work but also sharing and strengthening the military-civilian relationship.
Not only implementing the above models and activities, from the beginning of 2025 up to now, Lang Son Border Guard has coordinated with units and volunteer organizations to implement programs such as: "Warm winter clothes on the border", "March on the border", "Spring on the border warms the hearts of the villagers"... with a total value of more than 1.6 billion VND. Infrastructure works have also been mobilized by the Border Guard to build, serving both patrol work and people's lives. One of them is the construction of 282 border protection marker inspection roads with a total cost of more than 37 billion VND. The model "Lighting up the border patrol road" has also installed 563 solar-powered lampposts along 10.2 km of patrol road, worth over 840 million VND, helping officers, soldiers and people travel safely and conveniently.
The creative and effective models and methods of the Lang Son Border Guard have contributed to building a solid national defense posture from the grassroots. With the consensus and cooperation of the entire political system and the entire population, we believe that the Lang Son Border Guard will continue to excellently fulfill its mission, firmly protect territorial sovereignty, border security and bring a prosperous and peaceful life to the people.
