Sharing at the program, Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau, former standing member of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, said: Technology is no longer just for young people, older people can also be creative and spread this learning spirit to the community.

Through that connection, that effort also shows the cultural connection and support of young people to continue their fathers' generation and family.

Ms. Phan Bao Thy, Director of the Silver Digital Citizen project, said: According to statistics, people aged 55 and over account for nearly 20% of internet users in Vietnam (2023). Although this is a remarkable rate, compared to the total of 16 million elderly people (as of 2024), the ability to proficiently use smartphones and digital services is still modest.

Compared to other countries in the world , Vietnam is still at a low level, especially in terms of proficiency and diversity in using digital services. Vietnamese elderly people mainly use the internet for communication, while in developed countries, they have expanded to many other fields.

The project is aimed at helping the elderly to be equipped with knowledge, increase their confidence and ability to proactively access digital technology , including the issue of identifying and preventing online fraud.

Regarding the picture of internet usage of the elderly in Vietnam, statistics show that: 5.57% of the elderly do not have a network connection device; 72.03% use the internet daily; 94% use the internet to communicate with relatives; 80.64% use it for entertainment, 77.9% to search for information.

According to the World Bank (2020), only 12.7% of elderly Vietnamese people access the internet regularly. The rate of using email, text messages, and online games is still very low, showing a large gap between users.

Statistics also show that people over 60 years old are less likely to apply online than younger groups, due to lack of skills and traditional habits.
