As a result, searching within the app for, say, an old email, a contact, or specific numbers has become a lot easier.
The search giant said that in about two weeks, the Gmail app will show a new section called “Top results” when end users perform searches in their Inbox.
The new feature, powered by Google's machine learning platform, analyzes search terms, recent emails, or “similar elements” to determine which messages best match a customer's query.
It's the latest in a series of strategic changes for the email service, including a controversial policy update last month that would see Google completely delete data and content from accounts that have been inactive for two years.
In February, Google completed the release of the new user interface of the Gmail app, emphasizing the redesign and focusing on productivity tools.
This is in line with CEO Sundar Pichai’s overall strategy to cut operating costs and improve “20% productivity” at the search giant. During Alphabet’s latest earnings call, company executives discussed plans to allocate resources to areas including AI and search.
In a blog post, Google said the new update was “highly requested” and will be rolling out to all account holders and customers.
