After attracting attention at the 96th Oscar nominations, the movie Godzilla Minus One (nominated for Best Visual Effects) continues to attract attention in two aspects: revenue and awards.

In terms of revenue, the film grossed over $102 million worldwide (over $55 million in North America and over $47 million internationally - including $37 million in its home market of Japan alone).

Since its release in Japan in early November last year, Godzilla Minus One has immediately won the hearts of audiences. Up to now, outside the Japanese market, this is one of the most notable low-budget but high-revenue Japanese films of the year. The work tops the list of Japanese live-action films in the North American market.

The black-and-white version of Godzilla Minus One was shown in Japanese theaters from January 12, following the previous successful color version.

Godzilla Minus One stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Andō, Kuranosuke Sasaki. Unlike the most recent Godzilla film Shin Godzilla (2016), Godzilla Minus One is set in post-World War II Japan. At this time, Japan was heavily affected by the war, and offshore, the ancient monster Godzilla emerged from the deep sea, entered Japan and turned the country from "zero" to "negative".

In terms of awards, at the recently announced 47th Japan Academy Film Prize nominations, Godzilla Minus One received a total of 12 nominations - an overwhelming number of other films in the season. Of these 12 nominations, the film was named in important categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, as well as acting and special effects categories.

It should be recalled that at the 40th Japan Academy Film Awards, the Shin Godzilla brother of the director duo Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi received a total of 11 nominations, winning 7 awards, including 2 awards for Best Film and Best Director.

The 47th Japan Academy Film Awards will take place on March 8.
