On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of General Vo Nguyen Giap and the border guards of Quang Binh gathered together, wrapped green banh chung, and offered incense and flowers to the General's grave.
According to Ms. Vo Hanh Phuc, daughter of General Vo Nguyen Giap, making green banh chung has become a family tradition, an indispensable part of every traditional Tet holiday of the nation.

Therefore, when the General was laid to rest at Vung Chua - Yen Island, his family continued to maintain that tradition, to express their respect for him, create a warm and united atmosphere, and contribute to preserving the cultural beauty of the homeland and nation.
At Vung Chua - Yen Island, General Vo Nguyen Giap's family, along with officers and soldiers of the Border Guard, wrapped more than 150 green Chung cakes. After being cooked, the Chung cakes were presented to the General and given to border guards, union members, youth and people of Quang Binh.

To wrap the Chung cake, all the ingredients such as: yellow sticky rice, green beans, dong leaves, pork, string, etc. were prepared by the General's family in Hanoi and brought to Quang Binh. On this occasion, the family also brought to Vung Chua - Yen Island 1 Nhat Tan peach tree, 1 white apricot tree (nhat chi mai) and 2 black tea trees to plant in the grounds of the General's tomb.
Also according to General Vo Nguyen Giap's family, during this trip back to their hometown, after preparing the altar, offering banh chung, and incense to the General, the family will visit and wish the Ngu Thuy Female Artillery Company (Le Thuy district) a Happy New Year before returning to Hanoi.

Since the General was laid to rest at Vung Chua - Yen Island, more than 10 years have passed. Tens of millions of people and tourists have come to pay their respects and offer incense, especially during holidays and Tet.
Currently, in the area of Vung Chua - Yen Island, the yellow apricot and Nhat Tan peach trees are in full bloom, creating a fresh and impressive natural landscape. When visiting the General's tomb, people and tourists will be able to admire the yellow apricot garden with 103 trees (symbolizing the General's 103 years of age) competing to show off their colors.
