A Decade of Grab in Vietnam: Multi-utility Super App Boosts Digital Economy
First launched in Ho Chi Minh City in 2014 as a technology-based ride-hailing platform, Grab quickly expanded its network, connecting millions of users every day and contributing to bringing a convenient life to people across the country.
In more than a decade of doing business in Vietnam, Grab has continuously innovated to adapt to the increasingly diverse needs of users. In addition to the ride-hailing services GrabBIke and GrabCar, Grab has also launched additional delivery services GrabExpress, food delivery service GrabFood, online grocery shopping service GrabMart... Combining multiple services in the same application helps users have a safe travel experience, fast delivery and seamless, convenient digital finance, while opening up multiple sources of income for driver partners, restaurant partners and business stores.

Along with efforts to perfect the ecosystem, Grab has been supporting hundreds of thousands of driver partners through training programs, improving road safety skills as well as digital skills. For merchant partners - especially micro, small and medium-sized shops and restaurants - Grab provides a set of tools for sales management, revenue reporting, electronic payments and digital marketing. Thanks to that, many businesses have transformed themselves into "digital brands", expanded sales channels and increased sustainable income.
Within itself, Grab focuses on improving the technological quality of its human resources, especially local human resources. In 2017, Grab opened a Research and Development (R&D) Center in Ho Chi Minh City, gathering a team of highly specialized technology engineers. By the end of 2024, the size of the team at the center had increased by 60% compared to 2023. Right at this center, Vietnamese engineers not only participate in building products for the domestic market but also contribute solutions and improve Grab's overall technology throughout the Southeast Asian region.
Affirming that Vietnam is not only one of the markets that Grab prioritizes investment in, but also a place where Grab wants to leave a deep mark on the community and society, Mr. Anthony Tan said that the group is committed to continuing to promote innovation activities, closely cooperating with the Government, localities and businesses to actively contribute to the national digital transformation process.
In March 2025, Grab Vietnam and the Tourism Development Support Fund (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) signed a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding to support the goal of promoting and developing Vietnam's tourism, contributing to accelerating digital transformation in the tourism industry, thereby creating new driving forces for socio-economic development in Vietnam. The key contents include leveraging the strengths of each party to contribute to making Vietnam one of the destinations for foreign tourists, while stimulating domestic tourism.
In addition, the two sides will support micro, small and medium-sized businesses to access digital platforms and use digital tools to improve business efficiency, participate in e-commerce activities and cashless payments.

Previously, Grab Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hue City to implement programs and initiatives to support the city's digital transformation goals. Within the framework of the cooperation, Grab committed to accompanying Hue in activities to promote Hue's image and actively participate in tourism development cooperation activities, for example, creating Hue Travel Packages to enhance the experience for visitors, promoting tourism and Hue cuisine in and out of the application, etc.
In addition, Grab has also signed Memorandums of Understanding with Ho Chi Minh City Railway No. 1 Company Limited and Hanoi Railway No. 1 Company Limited to contribute to the management and development of transportation and the development of services and products for smart transportation in Vietnam.
With more than 10 years of presence in Vietnam, Grab is not only a companion on every trip and every order, but also contributes to strongly promoting the digital transformation process, creating millions of job and startup opportunities, and developing local technology human resources. "Grab is looking forward to promoting cooperation with the Vietnamese Government to promote digital transformation in provinces and cities across the country, especially in the fields of technology, innovation, enhancing AI application capacity for people, merchants and digitalizing tourism", Mr. Anthony Tan shared.
