Recently, Hanoi Children's Hospital received a 6-year-old child with a swollen, bruised finger with a constriction at the base of the finger due to a hard, tight metal ring, making it difficult to move, causing pain to the child.
According to the family, 2 hours before being admitted to the hospital, the child was playing and put his hand in the door lock, but could not pull it out because there were no adults around.

The child was stuck for an hour until his father returned. The family tried every way to remove the hook but failed, so they had to saw the entire lock off the door and take the child and the iron ring to the hospital.
Upon admission to the hospital, the doctor assessed: The iron ring at the base of finger III was tightly wrapped around the circumference of the finger. The child's finger was severely swollen, 1.5 times the size of the other fingers, with venous congestion, and the skin around the base of the finger was scratched due to previous attempts to remove it.
This case is very dangerous because arterial blood goes to the finger but venous blood cannot return, causing the finger to swell quickly. If left for a long time, removing the band will become more difficult and there is a risk of complete loss of blood supply to the finger and finger necrosis if not treated promptly.
As soon as the child entered the hospital, the emergency team and surgeons quickly completed the medical records and took the child to the operating room immediately.
Under intravenous anesthesia and regional anesthesia, the child did not feel any pain, the procedure to remove the foreign body by actively reducing the swelling, using special tools, lubricating gel, after 20 minutes the iron ring was completely removed without any further injury to the child. After removal, the finger circulation returned to normal, the finger movement was flexible.
