On the afternoon of October 25, at the headquarters of the Hanoi People's Committee, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh received Ms. Carolyn Turk, Director of the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam.
Speaking at the reception, WB Country Director in Vietnam Carolyn Turk thanked the leaders of Hanoi for their warm welcome; mentioned the content of the recent meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and WB President Ajay Banga and emphasized the proposals related to the WB increasing its support activities for Vietnam, especially in the field of urban transport.
World Bank Country Director in Vietnam Carolyn Turk said that the World Bank has been discussing with localities in Vietnam, including Hanoi, to jointly develop specific projects. The World Bank Country Director in Vietnam hopes that Hanoi will share specific development goals of the capital to find common cooperation plans in the coming time.
The Director of the World Bank in Vietnam expressed that this is the right time to update Hanoi on new priorities and goals and establish a more effective cooperation mechanism with the World Bank.
Agreeing with the proposal from the WB, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that Hanoi always considers the WB an important development partner.
Reviewing some of the WB's activities in Hanoi, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh welcomed the WB's active and effective support for Hanoi over the past years, including funding 11 projects in the capital with a loan of 270 million USD, for Hanoi to invest in providing clean water in the suburbs, treating wastewater from rivers and lakes, and implementing a number of public transport routes.
Discussing the development goals of the capital in the coming time, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that the city is reviewing the Capital Planning to 2030, vision 2045; adjusting the Capital Master Planning to 2045, vision 2065, which sets out major goals, meeting global trends in energy conversion, smart transportation, as well as handling challenges such as environment, waste...
In particular, sharing the goal of developing a green, clean and smart city and Hanoi has issued a plan for 50% of inner-city buses to use clean fuel by 2030 and 100% by 2050, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee hopes and requests the WB to continue to support and coordinate with Hanoi to implement projects in many fields such as wastewater management, completing the construction of 10 inner-city metro lines as well as handling water and air pollution...
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that Hanoi is ready to provide information for the World Bank to participate in consulting on useful experiences and initiatives related to green and sustainable development, especially urban transport./.
