Hai Phong to have three central urban areas by 2040

By 2040, Hai Phong will have three central urban areas with separate functions including new historical-administrative area, international financial trade area and Tien Lang airport.

On May 20, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City announced the decision to approve the adjustment of the city's master plan until 2040, with a vision to 2050. The city will have three central urban areas with a population of 3.9-4.7 million, and an urbanization rate of 80-86%.

The new historical-administrative urban area has about 110,000 people, and an urban construction land fund of 15,000 hectares. In which, Ngo Quyen, Hong Bang, and Le Chan districts are oriented to preserve and enhance space, architectural works, landscapes, and upgrade infrastructure to create the identity of a historic urban area. The space along the Cam River and Lach Tray River is planned to become an urban landscape park and service area.

The new administrative area north of Cam River in Thuy Nguyen district is encouraged to develop high-rise buildings with modern and unique architecture.

The international commercial and financial center is located in Hai An and Duong Kinh districts, expanding to the south and southeast. Satellite cities are in Duong Kinh, Kien An, Do Son, and Kien Thuy.

This area will have projects to exploit land funds along the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway to develop seaport services, logistics, and seaport industry. By 2040, this place will have about 1.6 million people and 34,000 hectares of urban construction land.

The third central urban area is Tien Lang airport, expected to be formed after 2030, with the orientation of industrial and service development associated with the international port. By 2040, the center can accommodate 90,000 people with an urban construction land fund of about 13,000 hectares. Satellite cities will be built in Tien Lang, An Lao, and Vinh Bao.

In addition to the three main urban centers, An Duong district in the west will become a district in 2025 with a population of 35,000, an urban construction land fund of about 9,000 hectares, becoming a multifunctional commercial and service center.

Cat Hai district is an industrial zone, seaport, international tourism center and conservation center for marine ecological diversity. The city will build Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 bridge, Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 3 bridge or tunnel, and a tunnel connecting the coastal road with Lach Huyen port.

Bach Long Vi island district becomes a center for fishing logistics services and search and rescue at sea, developing tourism and maritime associated with national security and defense.

According to the new planning, Hai Phong City plans to build four more bridges across the Cam River, three bridges across the Lach Tray River, three bridges across the Van Uc River, eight inter-provincial bus stations, and add belt roads 2 and 3 based on the new urban development structure.
