The forum was organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment in collaboration with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam. Attending the event were leaders of ministries, sectors and localities of the two countries and nearly 30 leading Dutch high-tech enterprises accompanying Prime Minister Mark Rutte on his official visit to Vietnam, as well as large Vietnamese enterprises and corporations.
The forum focused on discussing the following topics: Vietnam moving up the high-tech value chain - a perspective from global businesses; developing and nurturing Vietnamese high-tech talent - strategies and recommendations.
At the forum, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Mark Rutte witnessed the handover of cooperation agreements between agencies and enterprises of the two countries. Opinions at the forum stated that Vietnam and the Netherlands have a good traditional friendship for many centuries. After 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the relationship between the two countries has shifted from mainly aid partnerships to comprehensive partnership frameworks and strategic partnerships in various fields and is considered a typical example of a "dynamic and effective relationship" between the two regions of Asia and Europe.
Over the past decade, Vietnam-Netherlands relations have made great strides. The two countries became Strategic Partners on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014), upgraded to Comprehensive Partnership (2019). Currently, the Netherlands is Vietnam's largest investor in the EU and Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe.
However, the two sides still have a lot of potential and strengths that can complement and support each other, and one of the areas that needs to be strongly exploited is science, technology and innovation.
