To "cool down" the domestic fuel price surge, in recent days, the Government has invoked the emergency clause for national interest to reduce environmental tax, VAT, and special consumption tax on gasoline and diesel to zero, and implemented an advance payment of 8,000 billion VND to the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund from the increased central government budget revenue in 2025... Thanks to this, domestic fuel prices have initially stabilized and decreased significantly, contrary to global trends.

The aviation and tourism industries are struggling to find a way out of an unprecedented fuel crisis.

However, the pricing mechanism and factors affecting the price of Jet A-1 aviation fuel have unique characteristics compared to domestically consumed gasoline and diesel, therefore the input fuel price for aviation remains pegged at a very high level of over $200/barrel.
To proactively respond to the soaring price of Jet-A1 fuel, starting April 1st, the aviation industry nationwide will undertake an emergency flight network restructuring. It is expected that dozens of routes will be temporarily suspended, and hundreds of flights will be adjusted, canceled, or rescheduled to ensure continued operation and maintain the business efficiency of airlines.
With over 70% of tourists arriving in Vietnam by air, aviation and tourism are like the wings of an airplane. The difficulties faced by the aviation industry due to soaring fuel prices, influenced by the Middle East conflict, are causing anxiety in the tourism sector. Every canceled flight, every reduced route... could mean many tourists have to postpone their trips. Rising airfares lead to higher tour prices, and consequently, a decline in purchasing power...
In particular, we are preparing for the peak holiday season of April 30th - May 1st, followed immediately by the summer peak, a time when both the aviation and tourism industries have high expectations for a breakthrough. Increasing airfares and tour prices could affect the number of tourists, but not increasing them would be unsustainable in terms of cost.

Furthermore, even if the Middle Eastern conflict ends soon, world oil prices will certainly remain high and cannot fall back to their previous levels immediately. The reason is that oil production facilities in the Gulf region have been severely damaged and will require at least several months, six months, or even longer to restore operations. This aftershock will continue to directly affect aviation and tourism, impacting the entire ecosystem, not just a single link, segment, or few businesses.
The longer this drags on, the greater the consequences, while this is a crucial period – the first year the country enters a new era with a plan for double-digit growth throughout the 2026-2030 period. Achieving this goal is essential for us to become a high-income country by 2045.
So, how can we share the difficulties and harmonize the interests of aviation, tourism, and tourists? What should aviation do, what should tourism do, and what support should the State provide?... This is the content of the seminar "Aviation and Tourism Responding to Fuel Prices" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper, taking place at 8:00 AM on March 31st at the Thanh Nien Newspaper office , 268 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
For the first time, five Vietnamese airlines ( Vietnam Airlines , Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Sun Phuquoc Airways) will gather at a seminar organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper , along with the country's largest tourism developers (Vingroup, Sun Group, Vietravel Corporation, and Saigon Cosmetics Company) to share their challenges and propose solutions. Leading aviation and tourism experts will also be present to contribute their opinions and suggestions to help leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority, the National Tourism Administration, and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism develop strategies to help the aviation and tourism sectors overcome the rising fuel prices.
