Tet goods "race" to hit the shelves

Grasping market demand, in January 2024, Huong Anh Mart opened at 74 Truong Han Sieu Street, Hoa Binh City, meeting people's Tet shopping needs.

At supermarkets and retail stores in the province, products with packaging and designs bearing the colors of spring and Tet have appeared on the shelves. Products are diverse from cakes, candies, jams, nuts, Tet gift baskets, drinks, spices, industrial foods...

Ms. Pham Thi Nhuan, Director of Dinh Nhuan Trading Joint Stock Company (Hoa Binh City) said: "Determining that people's shopping needs will increase more than usual during Tet, the company has proactively sourced goods with a variety of items to serve people. This year, the supermarket has built a plan to import tens of billions of VND worth of Tet goods. Currently, Tet goods are displayed on shelves for people to shop, especially confectionery, beer, and soft drinks. The supermarket also continuously implements promotional programs to stimulate shopping for thousands of products, while properly implementing the price stabilization program, contributing to creating favorable conditions for people to shop for Tet."

At electrical equipment stores, decorative lights, fabric flower stalls, silk flower stalls, clothing stores, household appliances with high consumption during Tet... there are also more product samples on display than in previous months to serve people's Tet shopping needs. "Since the beginning of the 11th lunar month, stores have imported a large number of flashing lights and lanterns with many designs and styles, suitable for trends for people to buy to decorate their homes and gardens. At this time, there are many customers buying decorative lights, but compared to previous years, purchasing power is somewhat slower" - said Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, owner of a decorative goods store on Thinh Lang Avenue (Hoa Binh City).

According to retailers, this year's product range is quite diverse, with eye-catching designs and mainly domestic products at reasonable prices. Prices are expected to remain stable and stable. However, most retailers also said that this year's economic difficulties have caused people to tighten their spending. Compared to previous years, at this time, the purchasing power of essential goods is showing signs of slowing down, but businesses still put goods on shelves early to advertise designs and products for customers to refer to and choose to buy.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the province currently has 7 supermarkets, including 1 class I supermarket (AP Plaza in Hoa Binh city), 3 class II supermarkets (Winmart Hoa Binh, HC Hoa Binh electronics, Vi Hoa Binh - Hoa Binh city) and 3 class III supermarkets (book supermarket in Tan Thinh ward, Hoa Binh city; Dinh Giang supermarket, Da Bac town, Da Bac district; Tuan Khanh supermarket, Thuong Coc commune, Lac Son district); 3 class III commercial centers in Hoa Binh city (AP Plaza shopping center, Dong Tien ward; Phu Thanh Phat shopping center, Tan Thinh ward; Vincom Plaza shopping center, Dong Tien ward); at the same time, a system of specialized stores is being developed. The traditional market system has been re-planned, gradually upgraded, renovated and newly built, especially rural markets. The province has 95 markets, of which 1 market meets class I standards, 10 class II markets, and 84 class III markets. Some investors are interested in investing in new markets and renovating and upgrading existing markets in the form of socialization. Up to now, the management model of 30 markets (10 enterprises, 20 cooperatives) has been converted, accounting for 31.57% of the total number of markets in the area.

Supermarkets, shopping malls, and traditional markets provide abundant goods at competitive prices, and market stabilization programs are actively implemented, especially during the 2024 Lunar New Year, contributing to stabilizing the province's market. This year, the amount of goods prepared by businesses for Tet increased by about 30% compared to normal days. It is forecasted that the demand for storing some essential goods before, during, and after Tet will be worth nearly 400 billion VND.

According to the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade, in order to contribute to stabilizing the market and creating favorable conditions for people to shop for Tet, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with functional sectors and localities to continue monitoring the market situation to promptly regulate, ensure supply and demand balance and strictly control, ensure the quality and prices of goods so that people can shop with peace of mind.
