Hundreds of international students from 65 universities and colleges will compete in the first-ever nationwide Vietnamese Public Speaking Contest.
The Vietnamese Public Speaking Contest for Foreign Students, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training , opened on the morning of October 28th at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc believes the competition promises to deliver insightful and impactful oratorical performances in the context of global cultural exchange. He argues that the competition contributes to promoting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, creating momentum for innovation and improving the quality of education in general and Vietnamese language training in particular.
"I believe each entry is a unique creation, leaving an impression not only on the international students but also on all the Vietnamese audience, allowing them to see the country through multiple perspectives, and to love and understand our country even more," he said.

The preliminary round took place over three days, October 28th, November 3rd, and November 10th, corresponding to three regional clusters in the North, Central, and South, with 65 participating teams. The organizers stated that the competition, launched in August, attracted hundreds of international students from 65 universities and colleges across 29 provinces and cities.
This is the first time the Ministry of Education and Training has organized a public speaking competition for international students nationwide. In previous years, the competition was limited to international students from Laos.
According to the rules, each team will select 2-3 main speakers to deliver a speech in Vietnamese, with a maximum presentation time of 7 minutes. This year, with the theme "Vietnam in My Heart," contestants can share their understanding of Vietnam's land, people, and culture; and about the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and their homeland.
Twelve outstanding teams from three clusters will compete in the finals on December 1st in Ho Chi Minh City. The Ministry of Education and Training will award one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and six consolation prizes. The specific prize amounts have not yet been announced.
According to the Ministry's statistics, there are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam. Previously, during the period 2016-2022, Vietnam received and trained more than 45,000 international students from 102 countries and territories. On average, 4,000-6,000 international students come to Vietnam each year, mostly studying Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies.
