Strong winds and thunderstorms forced many flights, including Bamboo Airways flight QH122, to change landing route.

Mr. Tuan Chi commented on his personal Facebook: “It is true that you cannot joke with Mother Nature. Thank you to the Bamboo Airways captain for being strong today, landing at Noi Bai after 7 hours of struggling. More than a hundred lucky passengers clapped their hands when they escaped.”

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (Kevin Nguyen, in Hanoi ) said he and his family had just had a terrifying experience on a flight from Da Nang to Noi Bai.

Mr. Tuan, his wife and two children took flight QH122 from Da Nang International Airport to Noi Bai International Airport on the afternoon of July 19. The flight was scheduled to depart at 2:15 p.m. and land at Noi Bai at 3:40 p.m. the same day.

However, as the time to land approached, the plane encountered a violent storm and swayed. In the air, the plane shook violently, suddenly dropping altitude several times and then rising again. Outside, the sky was pitch black and covered with clouds.

Inside the cabin, many passengers were frightened, children were crying. Mr. Tuan also hugged his trembling child tightly. He held the child tightly, hoping for his safety.

Faced with adverse weather conditions, the pilot attempted to land twice on the runway at Noi Bai airport but was unsuccessful. The plane then took off and circled in the sky for about 30 minutes.

The captain then announced that the plane would return to its departure airport, Da Nang, to refuel. Fortunately, after 7 hours of waiting “in the sky and on the ground”, his family and hundreds of other passengers on flight QH122 landed safely at Noi Bai airport.

“When the plane landed safely at Noi Bai, hundreds of passengers applauded the captain and crew on the flight,” Mr. Tuan shared.

On social media, Bamboo Airways confirmed that due to the impact of bad weather, some northern airports experienced heavy thunderstorms on the afternoon of July 19. This affected passenger travel routes to the airport and flight operations at some northern airports.

However, the airline has not yet announced specific information about delayed or diverted flights like the case of Mr. Tuan's QH122. During this time, the airline recommends that passengers regularly monitor information about Bamboo Airways flight schedules on fanpage channels and official websites to minimize disruptions to their journeys.

Not only Bamboo Airways, many other flights on July 19 and 20 were affected by storm No. 3.

Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines Corporation said that due to the impact of typhoon WIPHA (typhoon No. 3) in the Hong Kong area (China), Vietnam Airlines will adjust the operation plan of some flights to and from Hong Kong on July 20 to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Specifically, flight VN592 from Hanoi to Hong Kong has an old departure time of 10:30, new departure time of 17:00. Flight VN593 from Hong Kong to Hanoi has an old departure time of 14:30, new departure time of 21:00 on the same day. Flight VN594 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong has a delayed departure time from 13:45 to 16:20 on the same day. Flight VN595 from Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City has a new departure time of 21:00. These are all local times at the departure location.

In addition to the above flights, some domestic and international flights on July 20 of Vietnam Airlines may also be affected by storm No. 3.

Previously, on July 19, due to bad weather at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, many of the airline's flights had to temporarily suspend operations, divert to land at other airports or wait for operating conditions at the destination airport to ensure safety.

On the afternoon of July 19, a strong thunderstorm appeared at Noi Bai airport with gusts of up to 30 kph, reducing visibility to only 1.5 - 3 km, affecting flight operations.
