At around 4:00 p.m. on July 19, thunderstorms and heavy rain suddenly appeared in Hanoi .

Previously, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that through monitoring satellite images, thunderstorm location data and weather radar, it was discovered that convective clouds were developing and causing rain in the northern area of Hanoi, moving and expanding to the inner city area of Hanoi.

Adverse weather also directly affects flights to Hanoi on this day.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, one of the passengers on flight QH122 of Bamboo Airways, shared his "unforgettable" experience on the flight from Da Nang to Hanoi.

The passenger said the flight departed at 2:15 p.m. and was expected to land at Noi Bai airport at 3:40 p.m. the same day.

However, as the plane was about to land, it encountered a thunderstorm and was shaking violently in the sky. Passengers clearly felt the plane suddenly lose altitude several times and then suddenly rise again.

In the passenger compartment, many people expressed anxiety because of the unexpected situation.

It is known that due to unfavorable weather, the flight captain, Mr. Dang Nhat Hien, failed to land the plane at Noi Bai airport twice. The plane had to fly up and circle in the sky many times.

Assessing the situation of not being able to land at Noi Bai airport at that time, Captain Dang Nhat Hien decided to contact to fly back to Da Nang airport to refuel.

The flight crew announced over the loudspeaker, asking for passengers' understanding due to the unavoidable incident.

After refueling in Da Nang, the plane continued on its way back to Hanoi. The weather was now more stable. The plane landed on the runway and successfully.

"When the plane landed safely at Noi Bai airport, hundreds of passengers applauded the captain and the flight crew. Thanks to their skillful and steady handling, the entire flight landed safely," said a passenger on the flight.

Speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Vu Viet Long, chief flight attendant confirmed that this incident occurred on flight number QH122.

He said the captain had followed the correct procedure. After two assessments of the situation, the plane could not land at Noi Bai, so it had to return to Da Nang to refuel before returning to Hanoi.

"When the plane landed safely, hearing the applause and congratulations from the passengers made us very emotional. The passengers were also very sympathetic to the unexpected objective situation," said chief flight attendant Vu Viet Long.

With 10 years of experience in the profession, Mr. Long has faced similar situations. He believes that on any flight, passenger safety is always the top priority.

It is known that on the same day, July 19, another Vietnam Airlines flight also encountered a similar situation. That was the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, departing at 2:15 p.m.

A passenger named Thao Nguyen said that when the plane took off, everything was completely normal. However, when the plane was about to land at Noi Bai airport, the situation became tense.

In the clip she recorded, passengers can be seen screaming loudly, many clinging to their seats out of fear. There were also babies and elderly people on the plane. Ms. Nguyen herself was very worried, but tried to stay calm and sit still waiting for instructions from the crew.

"At that time, the plane flew into an area affected by a thunderstorm, and started to sway and shake violently. The luggage compartment above the passengers' heads was blown open. Luckily, a flight attendant quickly went straight up to close it, otherwise the luggage would have fallen on everyone's heads in just a moment," she said.

The passenger added that the plane had to circle in the air for about 45 minutes due to bad weather. The captain then decided to temporarily land at Cat Bi Airport (Hai Phong) to refuel and wait for the weather conditions to stabilize.

"At around 6 p.m. the same day, the captain announced that the weather had improved so the flight resumed its journey to Noi Bai and landed safely. Everyone was scared, but admired the professional and experienced handling of the flight crew," Ms. Thao Nguyen affirmed.

On July 19, due to bad weather at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports, many flights of airlines had to temporarily suspend operations, divert to land at other airports or wait for operating conditions at the destination airport to ensure safety.

At Noi Bai airport on July 19, there was a thunderstorm with strong gusts of wind, reducing visibility to only 1.5-3km. 9 flights arriving at Noi Bai had to divert to an alternate airport, 3 flights taking off from Noi Bai had to temporarily stop to wait for more favorable conditions.
