Hanwha Life E sports is the champion of First Stand 2025 |
Esports is becoming increasingly popular around the world, linked to technological trends that bring value to the economy and attract global investors. According to Tech Collective, the market value of esports is expected to reach 5.1 billion USD by 2028. Notably, 43% of the market growth will come from Asia Pacific in the period 2021-2025 according to forecasts from Technavio. In particular, Korea is and will contribute the most to the development of the Esports market in the region.
As one of the leading Korean financial groups in technological innovation and digitalization, Hanwha Life has soon recognized the great potential and influence of Esports. Therefore, since 2018, Hanwha Life has acquired the League of Legends team and changed its name to Hanwha Life Esports (HLE), increasing investment in Esports with the goal of creating a healthy esports ecosystem, elevating and spreading this industry to mainstream development around the world.
The partnership with HLE demonstrates Hanwha Life Group's long-term and pioneering vision, consistent with its sustainable development strategy towards the future, helping young talents to be nurtured and developed in the right direction. In addition, becoming the owner of the HLE team brings opportunities to build and develop the Hanwha Life Group's brand to be more friendly and connected to young people, through the ability to reach hundreds of millions of young audiences worldwide.
With two consecutive championships at the LCK Cup and First Stand tournaments this year, HLE has become one of the number one prides of Korea in the regional and world Esports arena. This achievement is the "sweet fruit" of Hanwha Life on the journey to elevate Esports, change the community's perception, and create a new and different perspective for this industry.
In particular, investing in HLE in particular and Esports in general is also part of Hanwha Life's multi-sector, multi-platform business development strategy, building a comprehensive digital ecosystem that supports each other, aiming to become a global comprehensive financial group.
In its strategy to expand its reach globally, in 2024 alone, Hanwha Life has continuously invested heavily through impressive deals such as: acquiring 40% of Nobu Bank (Indonesia), 100% of Hanwha Savings Bank (Korea), 75% of Velocity Clearing (USA); opening the Hanwha AI Center in San Francisco (USA). In early 2025, Hanwha Life also signed two important memorandums of understanding with major partners SBVA and Celadon Partners in Switzerland to enhance its capacity in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT).
At the same time, in the Korean market, Hanwha Life's core business - insurance in 2024 - also flourished with many impressive financial indicators: net profit reached 720.6 billion won (equivalent to 503.3 million USD), up 17% compared to 2023; total new premium revenue reached 3,855.7 billion won (equivalent to nearly 2.7 billion USD), up 18.2% compared to 2023. Positive results from the domestic market will be an important launching pad to help Hanwha Life continue to promote the roadmap to increase its presence in the international arena.
Continuing its global expansion strategy, Vietnam is identified by Hanwha Life as a key market in Southeast Asia, therefore, the group will increase its search for long-term cooperation and investment opportunities through Hanwha Life Vietnam.
