On the afternoon of June 25, Nam Dinh Club confirmed its participation in the ASEAN Club Championship (Southeast Asian Club Cup) 2025 - 2026, through an official invitation from the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF).
Thus, coach Vu Hong Viet and his team will compete in 5 arenas: National Super Cup, V-League, National Cup, Southeast Asian Club Cup and AFC Champions League Two.
This is a record number for a Vietnamese club. This is also the first time in the history of Vietnamese football that a team has participated in 5 tournaments in one season.
If they participate in all the above mentioned arenas and reach the final of the Cup matches, Nam Dinh Club will play at least 56 matches. Thereby, they will break the "hard work" record of Hanoi Club in the peak season of 2019 (47 matches - 4 arenas).
With many goals and tasks, Nam Dinh Club will certainly have a thorough preparation in terms of personnel. The team from the South also has the ambition to go further in the Asian Cup, a tournament in which they only reached the round of 16 this season.
Next season, Nam Dinh Club, in addition to the return of Nguyen Xuan Son after injury, also plans to recruit more quality foreign and domestic players.
"Defending the championship this season is great. But I understand that next season will be even more difficult, when we have to compete in many different arenas.
Therefore, the team needs to clearly define each specific goal. After celebrating the championship, the team's leaders and I will sit down to discuss more thoroughly the direction in the coming time," Coach Vu Hong Viet shared after winning the V-League 2024 - 2025 championship.
Currently, Vietnamese football, apart from Nam Dinh, has no other clubs confirmed to participate in the ASEAN Club Championship. AFF does not have specific rules on how to select clubs to participate in the tournament.
However, according to most football backgrounds in the region, the national championship champions and runners-up are often selected to participate in this playground.
In the 2024-2025 season, Thanh Hoa Club (2023/24 National Cup champion) and Hanoi Police (2023 V-League champion) are the teams participating in the ASEAN Club Championship. Thanh Hoa stopped in the group stage, while CAHN won the runner-up position.
