The schoolyard hall is a familiar practice area for members of RED, the art club from the Institute of International Studies (ISB) - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, every weekday evening or on weekends (lunch and afternoon).

The heartbeat of youth

RED currently has over 50 members and many popular performances. One of RED's most memorable and explosive performances was at the "Connecting Hands 2022: BESIDE U" music festival - a major event at the school.

Nguyen Son Mai Vi, co-founder of the RED Club, said she wants to elevate the group's brand. "We are really serious about our performances. Interestingly, many of our members have been active in at least one other dance group before joining RED. Some have been involved in clubs since high school, and some have honed their skills since they were younger," she revealed.

To create those memorable moments where every step is synchronized, every movement graceful, and young hearts blend together on stage like small flames combining to form a brilliant energy, shining brightly together, everyone trains diligently in both skills and physical fitness.

For Huynh Bao Thuan, the head of RED, this club is not only a place to pursue passions and have the opportunity to showcase his abilities to the public, but also a reliable bridge for people to express their feelings and support each other in their studies and lives. This second-year student also learned how to manage time, think creatively, and communicate effectively and confidently.

A meeting place of youth

The Badass is a dance group affiliated with the Dance Group (DG) Club of Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City). The group has over 60 members and a YouTube channel with over 2.4 million views. The young members of The Badass are not only talented and passionate about art but also achieve excellent academic results.

Chung Ngoc Yen Nhi (11th grade student, Head of The Badass) said the group didn't face many difficulties balancing their studies and activities. "This is one of the schools highly rated for its academic quality and discipline. Everyone is self-disciplined and understands what needs to be prioritized; you can't let your love of dancing, excessive practice, and performances cause you to neglect your studies," she affirmed.

Dance clubs are popular because they suit the youthful and energetic spirit of the age group. In the photo, The Badass perform on the first day of school.

In the 2022-2023 city-level 12th-grade student excellence competition, Trinh Hoang Xuan Nghi, a member of the group, won third prize in English. Nghi is also one of the school's outstanding students, consistently ranking first in her class. Another member, Dong Nguyen Khanh Ngan, won first prize in Literature in the 2019-2020 school year and was among the top four finalists in the 2020 Golden Swallow School Competition.

The Badass has become an ideal meeting place for high school students. Many alumni, even after graduation, still return to celebrate, guide, and support the younger generation, helping the group grow stronger and create more engaging activities. Mac Duong Bach Khoa, the group's professional advisor, currently works in the media field. This former student from the 2015-2018 graduating class expressed: "We love to dance. When we dance, we have fun, feel healthy, and want to convey that wonderful feeling to everyone."

In recent years, the citywide Student Dance Group Festivals, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural Center in collaboration with various schools, have been enthusiastically received. The participating teams showcase diverse styles, personalities, and performance approaches, pursuing a wide range of musical genres and employing captivating choreography and song structure.

It can be said that, along with academic clubs, sports , arts, and entertainment clubs are also an indispensable part of the school life of Gen Z today. Among them, dancing offers health benefits, helps young people improve flexibility, enhances their sense of rhythm, and reduces the risk of depression.

According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), arts and culture activities at school should allow students to come up with ideas and execute them, so that they themselves can present products reflecting the times to their peers. This helps students develop and perfect the skills and qualities of young people. The school needs to create many playgrounds for students to freely express their creativity, aiming to promote their proactive and positive roles, so that they can assert themselves and develop the inner strength and creative ideas of the new generation.

"With students' projects, schools need to respect them, allowing them freedom of expression while still managing them in terms of traditional customs and morals, helping them choose appropriate attire, and paying attention to content with special elements... Gen Z has advantages in foreign languages and technology, quickly absorbs information from many sources, and knows how to learn and adapt in their own way to create their own products or innovate. Parents and schools need to encourage them to overcome their limitations and create many groundbreaking and meaningful products," Mr. Phu observed.
