The cremation rate increased significantly, reaching 76.42%.

According to the Vice Chairman of Hat Mon Commune People's Committee, To Xuan Quan, before July 1, 2025, the cremation rate in the seven former communes of Hat Mon, Tam Hiep, Lien Hiep, Hiep Thuan, Thanh Da, Tam Thuan, and Ngoc Tao reached 64.88%. However, this rate varies significantly between areas; Hat Mon achieved over 90%, while Tam Thuan only reached 30.77%, lower than the average for Phuc Tho district previously.

Following the implementation of the two-tiered local government model from July 1, 2025, the practice of civilized funerals in the commune has continued to show many positive changes. The commune recorded 106 deaths, of which 81 were cremated, achieving a rate of 76.42%, a significant increase compared to before. In particular, the practice of cremation before the funeral (also known as "dry funeral") is increasingly supported and embraced by the people, with 23 out of 81 cases, accounting for 28.4%.

Many villages have achieved a 100% cremation rate, such as Hat Mon 4, Hat Mon 5, Hat Mon 7, Hat Mon 9, Tang Non, and Phu An. Notably, the Phu An parish has made a significant shift, with 100% of deceased individuals switching from traditional burial to cremation, demonstrating a positive change in the awareness of the parishioners.

In addition, many families have effectively implemented civilized, economical, and environmentally friendly funeral practices. In the Tam Hiep area, households prepare two wreaths alternately for visiting and inform agencies, organizations, and relatives to bring only ribbons instead of wreaths when attending the funeral. This approach not only saves costs but also contributes to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

Furthermore, funerals are conducted in an orderly manner, ensuring they do not disrupt the community's daily life. Funeral music is played according to regulations, not before 6:00 AM and not after 10:00 PM. Many families hold simple, private meals, limiting ostentation and waste, thereby gradually fostering a civilized way of life within the community.

At the seminar, many delegates contributed heartfelt, responsible, and practical discussions, notably Mr. Tran Huy Hien, representative of the Tran family in the Tam Hiep area; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dao, representative of the Elderly Association of Hat Mon 5 village; Mr. Giang Sy Phu, Head of the Elderly Association of Lien Hiep 2 village; Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Party Secretary and Head of the Front Committee of Tam Hiep 6 village; Venerable Thich Dam Toan, Abbot of Ngoc Tao Pagoda and Deputy Head of the Buddhist Representative Board of Phuc Tho commune; and Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, representative of the Phu An religious community.

The opinions expressed provided in-depth analysis of the current situation, sharing best practices and innovative approaches from the grassroots level, such as encouraging people to adopt cremation, organizing simple funerals, using reusable wreaths, establishing family conventions, and promoting the role of the elderly and religious leaders in propaganda and mobilization efforts. These are effective models with high reference value and should be studied and replicated in the future.

Besides the achievements, delegates also frankly pointed out some shortcomings and limitations such as: A segment of the population is still slow to change their perceptions and has not yet agreed with cremation; the prolonged organization of feasts causes waste; propaganda work in some villages is not regular, and the content and form are not diverse enough; the exemplary role of some officials and Party members is not truly evident.

The entire political system is involved.

Speaking at the seminar, Nguyen Dinh Son, Secretary of the Hat Mon Commune Party Committee, affirmed that funerals are important rituals in people's lives. However, in the context of socio -economic development and the requirements of building a civilized lifestyle today, funeral customs need to be adjusted accordingly.

To improve the effectiveness of civilized funeral practices, the Party Secretary of the commune proposed strengthening the leadership role of the Party committees. Village Party branches should issue specialized resolutions or integrate this content into their monthly and quarterly resolutions.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen and innovate propaganda and mobilization efforts with practical and easily understandable content, focusing on issues that people are still concerned about, such as costs, cremation procedures, and spiritual factors. Building model examples of civilized funeral practices in each village is also identified as an important solution to create a ripple effect in the community.

The Party Secretary of the commune also emphasized the need to promote the exemplary role of cadres, Party members, and influential people in the community; 100% of cadres and Party members need to sign a commitment to practice civilized funerals in their families. At the same time, the commune will review, summarize, and replicate effective models such as "dry funerals," rotating wreaths, and streamlined funerals; and establish "civilized funeral support teams" in the villages to assist people in organizing solemn and economical funerals.

In addition, inspection and supervision will be strengthened, and criteria for civilized funeral practices will be included in the annual evaluation of cultural family and village titles, with timely commendation and rewards for collectives and individuals who perform well…

With the coordinated efforts of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, the implementation of civilized practices in funeral ceremonies in Hat Mon commune is expected to continue to make strong progress, contributing to building a more civilized, prosperous, and compassionate locality, worthy of the goal of developing a modern new rural commune in the new phase.
