The play tells the beautiful love story of young couple Tuan (played by Tri Quang) and Hien (played by Hong Anh). Hien comes from a poor family; her mother passed away, and her father works as a rickshaw driver. Hien and her sister had to drop out of school early to help support the family. She loves reading, so she chose selling books as a way to make a living.
Conversely, Tuan comes from a wealthy family and is a final-year medical student… But the young couple believe that love will last when they share the same heartbeat, loving each other with genuine affection, without calculation or class distinctions.
After a period of dating, Tuan and Hien's love blossomed into a small child. However, during this time, Hien's father passed away, and her love for Tuan became her last strong emotional support, enabling her to overcome societal prejudices and life's hardships. Nevertheless, amidst the chaos of war, societal changes, and the machinations of Tuan's mother (actress Ai Nhu), their love shattered, and they were separated.
More than 20 years later, the return of the man who had wandered far and wide searching for his lost love led to an unexpected reunion, filled with both joy and sorrow. Misunderstandings and conflicts were gradually resolved, replaced by forgiveness, mending the love they had shared throughout their decades of separation.
The play encompasses a full range of emotions, from joy to sorrow, evoking poignant moments of memory and recollection, prompting viewers to reflect on the meaning of "love," on life, and on the humanity of people in the face of life's harsh adversities.
"Meeting at the End of the Road" is a play invested in by Hoang Thai Thanh Theatre for the 2026 Lunar New Year theatre season. After the premiere performance, the play will be performed for a wide audience from the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Horse (February 17, 2026).
