Ms. Le Thi Thuy, a teacher at Thien Ke Kindergarten (Binh Xuyen) is one of the typical faces in the voluntary blood donation movement. Since her university years, she has actively participated in propaganda, mobilization and humanitarian blood donation. Up to now, she has participated in voluntary blood donation more than 10 times, mobilizing more than 20 people to register to donate blood. For Ms. Thuy, blood donation is a meaningful act of sharing, providing life to the sick, injured people due to accidents, and risks in daily life.
As for Mr. Nguyen Van Hien and his wife in Phuc Yen city, over the past 10 years, the biggest asset they have accumulated is more than 100 special "red books". These are blood and platelet donation certificates. Mr. Hien said: "At first, my wife and I simply participated in blood donation initiated by the agency. By 2021, when we directly met and interacted with patients being treated at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, my wife and I understood more deeply the meaning of blood donation, especially for patients who need blood for treatment. Since then, my wife and I have regularly registered to donate blood twice a year and donate platelets every 3 weeks."
The story of Ms. Thuy and Mr. Hien's family is a living testament to the noble spirit of charity, a shining example, inspiring and spreading the voluntary blood donation movement more widely in the community.
To ensure a reserve blood supply (maintaining a minimum of 1,200 - 1,500 units of blood) ready for emergency and treatment services at medical facilities in the area, in recent years, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation has increased communication activities in combination with organizing campaigns such as "Pink Spring Festival", "Pink Blood Drops", "Red Journey" program... At the same time, it has done a good job of honoring and rewarding groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement.
Along with launching the blood donation movement in agencies, units, and residential areas, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation coordinated with the Provincial Industrial Parks Trade Union to promote propaganda, spread the meaning, and attract the participation of workers and laborers working at enterprises.
Comrade Bang Hai Ninh, Chairman of the Provincial Industrial Zones Trade Union, said: “Every year, the Trade Union coordinates with the Humanitarian Blood Donation Center and the Office of the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee, and the Provincial Red Cross Society to organize the program “Red Drops for Enterprises” at enterprises with a large number of employees.
At the same time, direct grassroots trade unions to promote propaganda and mobilize workers and laborers about the significance of the voluntary blood donation movement; propose to business owners to provide support, encouragement and mobilize workers to actively participate in blood donation. Thanks to that, the blood donation movement in enterprises is growing stronger and stronger, attracting thousands of workers and laborers to register to donate blood each year.
Comrade Dao Trong Hieu, Director of the Center for Humanitarian Blood Donation and the Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, said: “Voluntary blood donation activities are maintained regularly, safely and effectively by agencies, units and localities in the province with flexible, creative and timely organizational measures to meet the reserve blood supply for emergency and treatment at hospitals. In the first 6 months of 2025, the Center for Humanitarian Blood Donation and the Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the Provincial Red Cross Society coordinated to organize 36 voluntary blood donation sessions, mobilized more than 13,000 people to register to donate blood and received 11,159 safe blood units”.
Promoting the achieved results, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation at all levels in the province continues to innovate propaganda forms, enhance the application of information technology and strengthen coordination with agencies, units, schools and enterprises. The goal is to further raise public awareness, encourage a large number of people to participate in regular blood donation, ensure a stable and safe blood reserve, and contribute to saving the lives of thousands of patients.
