This is a key activity in response to the Month of Action for Children and the implementation of the Safe Swimming and Drowning Prevention Program for the period 2026-2030 of the City People's Committee. The activity received enthusiastic support from teachers, parents, and nearly 1,000 students.
Speaking at the launch of the movement, Mr. Lam Thanh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, emphasized that learning to swim not only helps improve health and physical development but is also an important survival skill to protect oneself and the community. Through this launch ceremony, the Organizing Committee hopes to strongly spread the swimming movement, mobilizing the joint efforts of families, schools and the whole society in caring for and protecting children from the risk of drowning accidents.
The leaders of the City's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested that local authorities and relevant units continue to invest in facilities and swimming pools, creating favorable conditions for organizing swimming lessons and providing guidance on drowning prevention skills for children and the public. Parents need to pay more attention to managing, educating , and creating opportunities for their children to participate in swimming lessons.

Recognizing the significance and importance of developing the swimming movement, especially in ensuring the safety of young people, Phu Loi ward has consistently directed relevant departments and organizations to actively implement many comprehensive solutions. Thanks to these grassroots efforts, the awareness of the community and parents in the area has significantly improved, making the locality a shining example in proactively preventing drowning accidents among children.
According to Tran Thi Hong Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Loi Ward, the locality is determined to effectively implement the City People's Committee's Plan on "Safe Swimming Program to Prevent Drowning Among Children in the period 2026 - 2030". Thanks to the high level of public support, the movement to practice swimming and the work of popularizing swimming for children aged 6 to under 16 have initially achieved remarkable results, with the number of children participating in swimming lessons and acquiring safety skills increasing steadily over the years.

Following the launch ceremony, to realize the action slogans, the Organizing Committee implemented survival swimming classes. The classes attracted approximately 100 participants, mainly students. Here, participants focused on learning important skills to help them cope with unexpected situations, such as: treading water, floating, underwater breathing techniques, dealing with cramps, and escaping from deep water or whirlpools. This practical activity officially kicked off a series of safe and beneficial summer training activities in the area.
