The project is nearly 5 km long, with a total investment of more than VND 3,377 billion and was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in Decision No. 1438/QD-UBND dated March 15, 2024. The route passes through Tay Mo and Xuan Phuong wards and Son Dong commune.
According to the design, the expanded route is about 4.95 km long, including the Trinh Van Bo - Nga bridge section, 3.25 km long, with a cross-section of 50 m; the section from Thang Long Avenue to Ngo Thi Nham Street, 1.7 km long, with a cross-section of 40 m. The total land area to be recovered is more than 229,000 m². In Tay Mo ward alone, the area to be recovered is more than 64,700 m², related to residential land of about 160 households, agricultural land of 70 households and about 250 graves to be moved.
Recently, the People's Council of Tay Mo Ward held a meeting with voters on the progress of the project. A representative of the Ward Investment and Infrastructure Management Board said that they are currently implementing three construction and installation bidding packages and one consulting package for surveying and designing technical infrastructure relocation construction drawings.
However, many temporary tents, vehicles, and illegal assets on the road section passing through Xuan Phuong ward have not been moved, hindering construction.
Current status of Highway 70 before the upgrade project:
People have difficulty moving on Highway 70 through Tay Mo Ward due to the narrow road surface, many tree roots and obstacles located close to the roadside. Garbage and construction materials were illegally dumped on Highway 70, causing unsightliness and posing a potential traffic safety risk. Many sections on Highway 70 have not been cleared yet, temporary shops and old structures still exist, hindering road expansion. The section of Highway 70 through Tay Mo area is narrow and degraded, while the road expansion is still under construction. A large sinkhole appeared on Highway 70, endangering traffic participants. Trucks and vehicles have difficulty traveling on the degraded Highway 70, which has many potholes and mud after a long time without being renovated. Many sections on Highway 70 have large puddles, causing difficulties for motorcyclists. Traffic volume is high but road 70 is narrow and degraded, posing a potential safety risk.
Potholes and peeling road surfaces force people to avoid them, causing traffic chaos on Highway 70. Abandoned land along Highway 70 has become a source of waste, affecting the environment and urban beauty. Aerial view shows many material and equipment gathering points blocking the sidewalk and road 70, hindering the expansion construction. Construction materials and steel are piled up right on the side of Highway 70, occupying part of the road and sidewalk. Illegal garbage piles up along Highway 70, causing pollution and spoiling the landscape of the area. A section of Highway 70 has been under construction but is left unfinished. The road surface is bumpy and vehicles have to move slowly. Panoramic view of Highway 70 from above, many areas are still vacant land, the land has not been cleared.
