Now, every time they return from the fields and pass by the house of Ho Thi Mau and her husband on the bank of the stream, the people of A Deng 2 village, Trung Son commune, often stop to watch the flock of geese growing up day by day. Each batch of geese weighs about 1.5 kg; in about a month, they will be ready for sale. Seeing the scene of Mau and her husband, one chopping bananas, the other mixing bran; their young son, who is in elementary school, helping his parents change the water for the flock of geese, everyone smiles happily.
Nearly 3 months ago, the people of A Deng 2 village were happy because Ms. Mau's family was one of 30 poor households in the village, with children of school age, who received support from the Border Guard Station of Hong Van Border Gate (BPCK) for breeding ducks. Depending on the material conditions, each household was supported with 100 to 150 breeding ducks in the model "Red Scarf Duck Flock".
According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tuyen, Political Commissar of Hong Van Border Guard Station, accompanying the people in the border area to develop the economy, in recent times, the Border Guard force in the whole province in general, and officers and soldiers of the unit in particular, have had many effective models to help people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, and improve their lives.
“Helping poor households with breeding stock is an effective model that is no longer new. But the new thing about the “Red Scarf Ducks” model is choosing poor households with children and grandchildren of school age, so that the children can get acquainted with and practice labor. Through helping their parents with age-appropriate work and taking care of the ducks, the children are trained in life skills and love for labor. That is one of the “root” factors for future generations on the border to effectively promote their youth, rise up in life, and at the same time build their homeland” - Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tuyen shared.
The cheerful smile made the wrinkles on Mr. Cu Dom's sun-tanned face stretch out. Mr. Cu Dom confided that his family had experience raising chickens. Now that the Border Guard has supported them with 100 breeding ducks, the family is trying to take good care of them; after selling them, they will turn the capital around and continue to develop the breeding....
The joy doubled when his grandson, who is studying at Bac Son Primary School, diligently helped his family take care of the flock of geese. Mr. Cu Dom was excited: "Even happier, since helping take care of the geese, my grandson has become more conscious and proactive in doing many other chores."
When connecting with sponsors to support the funding for the implementation of the "Red Scarf Ducks" model, officers and soldiers of Hong Van Border Guard Station "expanded" the connection to 6 more breeding pigs. The families of Le Quang Nhan and Ho Thi Noi were the households that received support for breeding pigs (in which Mr. Nhan's family had 2 breeding pigs and Ms. Noi's family had 4 breeding pigs). "Not letting down the affection and dedication of the Border Guard, Mr. Nhan's family has been very "careful" in taking care of the pair of pigs. His brother has a milling facility, so Mr. Nhan has a guaranteed source of food for his animals. After only about two and a half months, each breeding pig now weighs 25kg. The 4 breeding pigs of Ms. Hoi's family have also grown up quickly like that" - Senior Lieutenant Pham Thai Son, Head of the Mass Mobilization Team of Hong Van Border Guard Station said.
The most joyful thing is the effectiveness of the model and the people's trust in the Border Guard. "Previously, A Deng 2 village belonged to Bac Son commune (not a border commune). Since Bac Son commune merged with Hong Trung commune (border commune) to become Trung Son commune (border commune), the people of A Deng 2 have known the close cooperation of the Border Guard through programs to help people reduce poverty, develop the economy ; help people prevent, combat and overcome the consequences of natural disasters; help people build warm houses in the border area... We understand that everything the Border Guard does brings good things to the lives of the people" - Mr. Ho Van Thi, Head of A Deng 2 village shared.
Therefore, many households that are not eligible for support have also started to implement the above model, to both develop the economy and "plant" skills, spirit and love of work for future generations. Seeing the initial significance and effectiveness, recently, the Border Guard Station of Thuan An Port has "extended" the model to the sea border area. Officers and soldiers of the Border Guard Station of Thuan An have coordinated with local authorities and Phu Thuan Secondary School and Phu Thuan Primary School to support ducklings in the model "Red Scarf Ducks" for 15 poor households with children of school age.
“After surveying the actual situation in the area, we found that raising ducks is more suitable and effective for the people in this area, so we agreed with the sponsors to support duck breeds. The people are very excited to receive the support, and are trying to take good care of the ducks,” said Lieutenant Cao Duc Anh, Captain of the Mass Mobilization Team of Thuan An Port Border Guard Station.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Hong Tuyen, Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard, this new model will be replicated in the coming time, to promote the "double" effect of helping people on the two border lines reduce poverty, develop the economy, and help train awareness and love of work in the young generation.
