Elderly people participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation

On February 20, 2025, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 379/QD-TTg approving the Project "Elderly people participating in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation". This project is not only an important step forward in promoting the potential of the elderly but also contributes to the sustainable development of the country in the context of digital transformation and environmental protection.

Project Viewpoint

Thoroughly grasp and institutionalize the viewpoints, guidelines and policies of the Party and State on the elderly participating in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation in the process of rapid population aging in Vietnam.

The elderly are an important resource contributing to the realization of the country's sustainable development goals in the new era; meeting the needs and aspirations of the elderly to work, contribute, and at the same time enjoy the country's development achievements.

The implementation of the Project is consistent with the process of digital transformation, green transformation, start-up and job creation in the current context, ensuring feasibility, inheriting and promoting practical results, selectively absorbing international experiences suitable to Vietnam's conditions,

The process of organizing the implementation of the Project ensures close coordination between ministries, branches, agencies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, organizations, localities and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly ; the participation of businesses and people in continuing to promote the intelligence and experience of the elderly to participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, start-ups and job creation, actively contributing to the socio -economic development of the country.

Specific objectives of the Project

The project sets specific goals for 2030, notably enhancing digital capacity for the elderly. Accordingly, 90% of officials, members, and the elderly will be educated and have their awareness raised about digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship, and job creation; 50% of the elderly will be proficient in basic digital skills, including: online public services; online shopping; online payment, self-protection in cyberspace, and use of other digital platforms depending on local characteristics; At least 1,260 elderly people will be supported to start a business, 500 elderly entrepreneurship models; At least 100,000 people will have jobs through elderly entrepreneurship models.

The project also aims to develop green economic models and environmental protection, with specific activities such as collecting and classifying waste at source and planting trees.

By 2035: 100% of cadres, members, and the elderly are educated and have their awareness raised about digital transformation, green transformation, startups, and job creation; 70% of the elderly are proficient in basic digital skills, including: online public services; online shopping; online payment, self-protection in cyberspace, and use of other digital platforms depending on local characteristics; At least 2,500 elderly people are supported to start a business, 1,000 elderly startup models; At least 200,000 people have jobs through elderly startup models.

Tasks and solutions

To achieve the above objectives, the Project sets out many specific tasks and solutions, including improving the capacity of cadres, members, and the elderly in the fields of digital transformation, green transformation, start-ups, and environmental protection. The Government will also build pilot models for the elderly to participate in start-ups and develop green economic models.

The project also focuses on policy support for the elderly through consulting activities, scientific research and policy support proposals. In addition, communication, promotion and monitoring activities for the implementation of the project will also be carried out synchronously.

The decision to approve this project not only provides opportunities for the elderly to promote their role in society but also contributes to the digital transformation, environmental protection and sustainable economic development of the country. Creating a favorable environment for the elderly to participate in these fields will help reduce age discrimination in work, while promoting the intellectual potential and experience of the elderly./.
