With the advantage of being in the top of the country in high-tech agriculture , in recent years, the model of organic agriculture and circular agriculture has been developed by many farmers and cooperatives in Lam Dong. In particular, the farm of Mr. Le Ngoc Thong, Hiep Thanh commune is a typical example.

In 2002, after graduating from the Animal Husbandry Engineering Department of the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, Mr. Le Ngoc Thong was hired by a corporation operating in the field of livestock and poultry farming based in Lam Dong. After 22 years working in the local livestock sector, Mr. Thong has accumulated a lot of experience in management, livestock farming and agricultural production. In early 2024, he decided to quit his job to build a green agricultural production model, circular agriculture in Hiep Thanh commune. This is one of the models implemented in a closed cycle, using waste and by-products as inputs for the next production process; thereby, exploiting and reusing waste and by-products in livestock farming, effective agricultural production, reducing environmental pollution, protecting the ecosystem and human health.

Initially, Mr. Thong built a farm of more than 1,400 square meters to raise black soldier flies, earthworms, pigs and chickens in an organic, circular manner. After the infrastructure was completed, he bought black soldier fly eggs and dozens of kilograms of earthworm seeds from a facility in the province to start incubating and raising. According to Mr. Thong, black soldier flies have a growth cycle of 35-45 days, going through stages such as: eggs, larvae or calcium worms, pupae, cocoons and adult flies. The larval stage takes a large amount of time and requires nutritional supplements. The larvae's food is agricultural waste and by-products such as cabbage, onions, animal carcasses, etc. These are quite common in the locality. As for earthworms, he raises them with livestock waste and agricultural by-products such as spoiled vegetables, tubers and fruits. Earthworms have a growth period of 20-30 days before they can be harvested to serve production and market development.

Currently, each month, Mr. Thong's farm harvests about 10 tons of black soldier fly larvae, 4 kg of black soldier fly eggs and 1.6 tons of earthworms. Of which, black soldier fly eggs cost from 3.5 to 4 million VND/kg; earthworms cost 80,000 VND/kg. Along with raising black soldier flies and earthworms, his family also cooperates with a company to raise 2,000 pigs and 30,000 commercial chickens. The model brings the family a profit of about 100 million VND per month.

Mr. Thong said that this closed production model does not leave any waste, helping to reduce input costs in production. In addition, raising black soldier flies and earthworms also effectively processes agricultural by-products and livestock waste. Currently, the prices of materials and animal feed are increasing, the model has helped reduce about 40% of production costs for the farm.

Mr. Tran The Quang, an official of the Lam Dong Farmers' Association, affirmed that Mr. Le Ngoc Thong's family has successfully applied the circular economic model, aiming at organic agriculture; in line with sustainable agricultural development. From successful models in the area, the locality is actively promoting and encouraging people to carry out production and livestock farming in a circular and ecological direction to improve economic efficiency and protect the environment.
