“Vietnam U23 has many quality players who have played for the national team and V.League. They often score goals from set pieces and are always well prepared in this aspect. But we also have players who are good at aerial combat. Let’s see how we can neutralize Vietnam U23’s weapons,” said U23 Philippines coach McPherson.
Coach Garrath McPherson expressed great confidence in the press conference held on the afternoon of July 24. The Scottish strategist affirmed that he had carefully studied the playing style of U23 Vietnam and had a specific plan to deal with it.
The U23 Philippines surprised everyone by impressively passing the group stage to reach the semi-finals. Although not highly rated from the beginning of the tournament, coach McPherson and his team showed clear progress with each match.
“We were initially considered underdogs. But the players have become more and more united, more disciplined and more cooperative. It’s great to be in the semi-finals. The players love their country, love football and can feel the great support from home,” said Mr. McPherson.
According to the head coach of the U23 Philippines, his team does not only depend on a few key players but has a deep squad with 23 quality players. In particular, many names have played in major international tournaments such as the AFF Cup and do not lack battle experience.
“They have great tactical vision, technique and the ability to pass people very well. However, what I am most proud of is that the whole team always plays with the highest fighting spirit. We are still physically fine after the group stage. The whole team is eager for the upcoming match,” the strategist added.
The semi-final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Philippines will take place at 4:00 p.m. on July 25. This is the first time U23 Philippines has reached the semi-finals of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament, while U23 Vietnam is a strong candidate for the championship.
