In the 34th round of the Turkish Super Lig, Fenerbahce won 2-1 against Eyupspor but officially lost the chance to win the championship when Galatasaray defeated Kayserispor with a score of 3-0 to be crowned. This is the 25th time Galatasaray has won the national championship in history.

Thus, Fenerbahce has gone through a trophyless season. In the press conference after the match, coach Mourinho did not hold back with his thoughts about the season that is gradually coming to an end: "The whole world has seen what kind of tournament the Super Lig is. I am not satisfied with the current situation. I do not know if this is enough to call it a successful season. I can do better and so can my players".

Before this match, there was a lot of information spread that Mourinho had reached an agreement in principle with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), to become the coach of the national team after the UEFA Nations League taking place next June.

When asked about the rumours circulating about having reached an agreement with the FPF, to lead the national team, Mourinho categorically denied: "I have never had any conversations with the FPF. My club will always be the first to be informed if I meet someone. I am a loyal person, the last time a club contacted me, I immediately informed Fenerbahçe. That was in January".

The idea of inviting Mourinho to coach the Portuguese national team is not new. In 2010, FPF approached him but was blocked by Real Madrid President Florentino Perez.

In addition, Mourinho also frankly refused to comment when asked about his future with Fenerbahce. He commented: "I don't talk about internal issues with the press. If the culture here is like that, it's not my style. I don't comment."

Before ending the press conference, Mourinho also criticized the way Galatasaray celebrated the championship. Specifically, Mourinho's opponent had a situation where goalkeeper Fernando Muslera took a penalty kick during the match.

"The way you celebrate a championship reflects who you are as a person, and what you stand for as a club. Today's celebrations almost summed up the whole season. When they were 2-0 up, they let the goalkeeper take a penalty," the Portuguese tactician used this situation as an example of his view of this tournament.

Thus, since the 2013-2014 season, Fenerbahce has not won the national championship once. Their ambition is very big when this club brought in a series of quality players such as Fred, Skriniar, Sofyan Amrabat... and especially coach Jose Mourinho. However, Fenerbahce still easily lost to Galatasaray.
