'Nguyen Thi Oanh trains harder than competing in the SEA Games'
Nguyen Thi Oanh delighted Vietnamese fans when she won 4 gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games, in the events of 1,500 m, 3,000 m steeplechase, 5,000 m and 10,000 m. In particular, the "little pepper" of Vietnamese athletics made many people admire her when she won 2 gold medals in just 30 minutes in the 1,500 m and 3,000 m steeplechase.
Despite only having 15 minutes of rest after winning the 1,500m event before continuing to compete in the women's 3,000m hurdles, Nguyen Thi Oanh still won both times. Coach Tran Van Sy played a very important role in Nguyen Thi Oanh's success.

Sharing with Thanh Nien, Mr. Sy revealed for the first time about his student's miracle: "During the training and coaching process for many years, especially during the recent training session in Nghe An, where the weather is hot like Cambodia, we had exercises as rigorous as or even more rigorous than those at the SEA Games. When Oanh had just finished running 2,000 m, she was only allowed to rest for a maximum of 2 to 3 minutes, which means it was more rigorous than the competition. Such rigor was to ensure Oanh's physical strength to compete in many events."
Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter interacted with coach Tran Van Sy and athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh right at Morodok Techo stadium.
However, according to Mr. Sy, although Nguyen Thi Oanh trains harder to ensure her physical strength, there will be a difference when competing. "The difference is that when training, there is no pressure like when competing, especially in the regional SEA Games arena. Besides, the teachers and students face pressure from fans, pressure when they are the defending champions, the Asian indoor champions, etc. But when we have resolved that, in the next stage, we will be more successful," said Nguyen Thi Oanh's coach.
Responding to changes like BTC's weather
Regarding the sudden change in the competition schedule, Coach Tran Van Sy said: "Three months before the SEA Games, we received the schedule and Oanh's competition was relatively favorable. We competed in the morning, afternoon and the following days. But something unexpected happened when at the professional meeting, the organizing committee changed the schedule again. This time the schedule was even more favorable than the previous schedule when all events were competed in the afternoon. However, when we were preparing to compete in the afternoon of May 8, at noon, we received a new schedule that we would compete in the 1,500 m and 3,000 m obstacle course events, only 20 minutes apart."
Coach Tran Van Sy revealed that he had Nguyen Thi Oanh practice much harder than in competition.

Mr. Sy continued: "I think it was difficult for Oanh. After registering, we did not have time to withdraw. Because according to the regulations, athletes can only withdraw their registration 24 hours before the competition at 10:00 a.m., but because the organizers changed it unexpectedly, we did not have time to withdraw the registration and decided to let Oanh participate."
